In the 24 years I've been married, the Maytag Gas Kitchen Range MGR5765 is the worst appliance I have ever bought.
I bought in late Dec. 2004 and installed in home in Jan 2005. Within 14 months the oven handle snapped and broke. I called Maytag and told them how the handle snapped, and their response was that my one year warranty was up. I told them that the handle was defective and that it should not have broken so easily. They wouldn't help, and we ended up buying our own handle and replacing it ourselves.
In March/April 2007 the oven quit working. Called Maytag, and told them that the oven won't heat. Again, I was told I didn't have an extended warranty and I had to pay for all my own repairs. I called a certified Maytag repair man that they recommended, and spent about $200 having the ignitor replaced.
In Nov. 2007, using the Self-clean Feature, I tried to clean the oven, and the oven quit working again. I called Maytag, and once again they told me that I was responsible for my own repairs. I explained that I have been using the stove for less than 2 years and this was my second major repair problem. I refused to spend another $200 to have the ignitor replaced.
By Dec. 2008, after not having an oven for a year, I broke down and called a repair man. After working on the stove, he still hasn't gotten it fixed. We have ruled out the ignitor and an oven gas valve. The repairman (who is deemed one of the best in our area) is consulting with colleagues to figure out what is wrong.
So far, since Dec. of 2004, I have racked up about $500 on repairs/parts, and the stove doesn't work. I bought a lemon. What is more infuriating than spending my money on a bad appliance is the lack of concern from Maytag. Ignitors should not burn out in a stove that is less than 2 years old. Oven door handles shouldn't break from normal usage. Your oven shouldn't quit working because you turn on the self-cleaning feature.
I have consistently called Maytag with these problems. Maytag customer service is poor and you need to consider that when you purchase products from them. Talking to the people at Maytag is like talking to a robot. I tried to tell them that the stove is a lemon, but they don't care. My initial warranty was up and I did not buy an extended warranty, so they owe me nothing.
Save yourself a lot of grief and money - don't buy this stove. And seriously consider purchasing products from Maytag and I say this because of their customer service and what appears to be poorly constructed products.
