Thanks for stopping by. (Should you upgrade, this game is worth the consideration.)

Well all's well that ends well, right? Right? This turned out to be a fine review although I don't think I'll be upgrading my computer anytime soon for 3-D bullet holes in the walls. Still that does sound cool...

Update (Reply to this comment)

Thanks for emailing me about this update. I like how you broke down all the different aspects of the game, it's a different take than reviews (like my own) that are more traditional essay-style texts. Great job, hope to read more from you in this section!

Alright the game is here and I took a close look at it to revise my review (update for the final version). Amazingly the game got only better but the demo was very close to the final product.

I think several others have already said enough, but I wanted to explain my SH. You have a great review of the basic specs of this game. However, there's really not much here about the "experience" of playing this game, what it's really like, and unfortunately for this type of game I don't think a demo can really provide that. Specs are all fine and dandy, but I can find them at the publisher's corporate site. I want to know how enjoyable it is to play this game, and this just doesn't do that for me... yet. I'll add a comment alert, and please leave a comment or email me when you update with the full version so I can read a full review.

No argument intended, my friend. I look forward to reading your full review in October!

No need to drag this argument out much further. Your opinion (SH) is very welcome and so is everybody else's. Afterall, it's "Epinions" and not "Professional Gamer". ;-) Thanks for the input and I will update in October. Stay tuned.

Doesn't seem that gray to me. This is obviously not the full game. Look at what other game review sites do. They do not review demos of games. They may give a *preview* based on the demo, but they don't give a full review. Much in the game can and will change. Obviously if the full game doesn't ship until October, it isn't done and as such shouldn't be reviewed.

That said, your review of the game is excellent. I'm just wondering if you should shelve it for later.

The fact that they send you a demo when you order the game is irrelevant. It's some sort of marketing ploy to keep you interested.

made a decision! sorta... (Reply to this comment)

What I think would be good is to post this under "Misc Games" or something. That way people searching for this game on Google could find it, but would not violate the TOS.

But you ARE reviewing something you can order right now. Hmm....

No one wants to hear my long-winded rambling on the posting of previews, but I'll leave it at that.

Would be nice if a game preview section was available.

Anywhoo, this wasn't much of a decision.

It's not that I don't understand, just that I don't totally agree. F.E.A.R. is currently sold (may it be a a pre-order) and the Demo is all you get right now for sending them your money. Hence, I reviewed the product, just not the version which will be available in in October. You might look at it as a patch which is not available yet.

Think of it this way:

The demo does not let you play the whole game. Just a portion of the game.

Reviewing the demo would be like writing a movie review based on an extended trailer for the film.

Until you've seen the whole thing, you really can't write a fully qualified review.

Just about every game demo I've seen is stripped down and has features missing.

Fine. Just keep in mind this product can be ordered and all you get right now is the Demo in a box.

Thanks for initially having a VH handy until ... well I guess it's the rule or at least the interpretation thereof -- up to you. (I know many people will follow.)

As long as you got the basic idea that ordering right now may not be a good idea since one may not have proper hardware available -- I did my duty. Of course SH or NH are the same thing, they both block this review from being visible.

I set the comment alert, so when you review the full game, I'll come back and reconsider.

Look, you wrote an awesome review here. There is no denying that. The issue is that things change in game development between demo and final release. Probably nothing that will change your review all that much, but it still makes a difference.

I will not rate this either way because we don't really have any set rules on this type of thing and your review is not NH or entirely OT. I can tell you that some advisors here will rate NH and OT.

Just don't forget to update when the game finally comes out.

As stated in the text it's a preview of the game using the demo as a reference. (Go ahead and click the OT rating if you like.) I will update once it's available, but I felt that the info I am providing is significant as one can pre-order the game and you may need to know about it before putting $50 down.

Is this review for the demo of the game?
