Pros: Ultra smooth legs, quick and easy to use, relatively inexpensive versus waxing regularly
Cons: Somewhat loud, fear inducing, possibly painful
The Bottom Line: Works well but you must be willing to give it a chance and work through any discomfort. Do small spaces at a time and get used how it feels.
I hate stubble; I mean hate it BAD. So I began waxing my legs - myself. Even with salon quality materials it was a messy undertaking. So I began having my legs professionally waxed, but you have to let the regrowth reach a certain length prior to getting waxed again. Thus I began to tweeze my leg hairs away to keep them smooth. This was time consuming and made me feel like I needed to see a shrink!
I began googling the internet to find alternative hair removal methods (had a friend who had gotten lasered and all she got was scars AND she still has to shave plus it cost over $1,000) and became intrigued about the Emjoi. I have another friend who shops a lot from TV so I asked her if she was familiar with the product and she said yes as a matter of fact she would sell me hers because she is too chicken to use it. She sold me this model plus a battery-operated model for $35 total.
I was a bit scared at first but I just went ahead and found the sensation to be just a tiny sting which immediately stopped when the hair was removed in that area. No residual discomfort at all. It was so quick and easy to use; I was hooked!!! After a few uses the stinging was so slight I barely felt a thing.
My legs are always smooth and hairless. I use the Emjoi every other day although this is probably excessive. It causes my skin no irritation and I am completely finished in less than a minute.
I got really brave and also began doing my underarms because I hate pit stubble EVEN WORSE than leg stubble. Never waxed underarms but I did tweeze them. (Thankfully, eradication of stubble is the only way my OCD manifested, lol.)
I will admit the underarm area was a little more painful than the legs. Perhaps my legs were somewhat desensitized due to all the waxing and tweezing. My brother thinks it is a torture device and didn't even clear a small patch on his forearm. However, he has a friend who recently began bodybuilding and therefore had also begun getting his upper torso and arms waxed in order to see the definition of his musculature. He also hated having to wait for regrowth in order to have enough for the wax to adhere. I told him about Emjoi and he ordered the same model. When he received it he called me and told me thank you for telling him about it. Although he had only gotten waxed 2 or 3 times he says the sensation is mild and decreases after a couple of uses.
I would recommend trimming hair of any length (for example male leg hair) before using because you may have more discomfort due to pulling and not strictly the hair removal process.
A dual-purpose attachment head comes with this device for above-mentioned trimming or actually electric shaving. I have never used it though.
I have saved so much time and so much money that the product has more than paid for itself. I have been using it for about a year and if mine stopped working I would immediately replace with the same product. I love this gadget!!!
This appliance's bark is worse than it's bite. It makes a very intimidating noise and this coupled with the fact that the head is a wheel of whirling tweezers is enough to induce serious apprehension about trying it out.
