| dbeeder's Full Review: Sony Handycam DCR-PC5 Mini DV Camcorder |
Though I was a little alarmed at the price, I purchased this camcorder (my first) a few days before my daughter was born. I was glad for the timing. As for the picture and photo quality, I was pleasantly surprised. I also loved the compactness of the unit, allowing me to carry it in a large jacket pocket or fannypack.
The honeymoon was over when the unit broke about the time my daughter started crawling. (I always treated the unit like an egg, never dropping it, so it broke from simple use). Though it was well before the expiration of the 1 year warranty, I found to my chagrin that the warranty only applied to parts. The WARRANTY FOR LABOR IS ONLY 90 DAYS! To get my camera functioning again I had to pay over $300 in labor costs. It was that, or shell out more for a new camera.
Based on my experience I cannot recommend this camera. If I had to do it all over again I would buy the Canon Elura MC2, a less expensive camera with similar features and a better warranty (1 year parts AND LABOR).
