Pros: quality, style, user-friendliness and a wealth of options
Cons: price, and tires that lose air
The Bottom Line: Don't overthink it. Get it if you want it and can afford it.
(Hey epinions, why are many Bugaboo Frogs listed separately by color? It's all the same product.)
marquischacha's Full Review: Bugaboo Frog - Red Standard Stroller
First of all, don't buy this stroller if you're not OK with frequent stops to talk with with strangers about it. People love the Bugaboo or hate it, but all new parents seem to have an opinion about it -- an opinion they feel compelled to share.
The people who hate it resent what they see as its outrageous price tag -- with some justification, I think. What Starbuck's did for coffee, the Frog did for strollers -- e.g. pushing the price point to double what it was, thus skewing the whole market. Websters' defines "bugaboo" as "something that causes fear or distress out of proportion to its importance." Enough said.
The people who love it, love it because, well, it's a really cool stroller. Not only does it look cool, it's actually well-designed. I was skeptical about shelling out the money for this stroller -- my gear-obsessed (and somewhat spendthrift) husband picked it out. I have to admit it's worked out pretty well for us. It's larger than your average stroller (it's the SUV of strollers, if you will) but it's very comfortable to push, with great handling. It's a smooth ride for your little one, and very stable. It has some neat features, such as a two-wheel option for the beach; the option to point the kid towards you or away from you by simply changing the direction of the handle; a removable safety bar in front; even a bug net. It's very durable, and light for its size; we've taken it on numerous flights and it has survived the bashings of luggage handling remarkably well. It cleans up easily. And it's big enough to use for a long time -- your child won't outgrow it until she outgrows strollers altogether.
My only gripes with it is that yes, it does take up a lot of space, so it wouldn't be the best stroller to take on the bus or subway, and also the tires seem to go flat quite a lot. We always keep a bicycle pump handy.
Otherwise, I'd say it is actually worth the money if you can afford it. If you think you might like this, then you probably will. That said, if you don't believe in spending so much on a baby carriage, there's still something to be said for the $50 "umbrella stroller."
