kjscrafts's Full Review: Bear in the Big Blue House - A Bear For All Season...
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
Bear in the Big Blue House is an older Playhouse Disney show for preschoolers. The main character is a giant Bear. Each episode basically involves Bear going around the house and/or backyard and having conversations with various other residents of the house, such as Shadow who tells a story when he finds her. The show ends with Bear and Luna the moon singing the Goodbye song after Bear has shared the days activities with Luna. It is not the most exciting show, but it is a show a lot of preschoolers I have babysat over the years have enjoyed watching.
The first episode on the DVD is called Summer Cooler and is about it being a warm summer day and Bear is looking for someone to play Checkers with, but everyone seems to have other plans for beating the summer heat such as Twitter the mouse hanging at his swimming club he created by turning the sink into a pool.
The second episode is called Falling for Fall. In this episode Bear searches for Treelo the lemur, who becomes upset when he learns that trees lose their leaves in the fall. In the episode Bear encounters other aspects of fall including Twitter making pumpkin pie. In the end he helps Treelo realize it is okay that the leaves fall in the fall to make room for the new leaves to come in the spring.
The third episode is called All-Weather Bear. In this episode the animals of the house are going swimming and try to get Tutter to come with. Tutter does not like getting wet, so they give him a floating chair. This episode talks about other weather as the weather turns from sunny to rainy and brings a temporary halt to their swimming plans.
This particular DVD is a good one for entertaining the kids on a rainy day in summer or fall. It is a little deceiving that it is called a Bear for All Seasons, but it does not really cover spring and for sure does not cover winter. The title made me think it would touch on all four seasons, but only summer and fall get in depth attention.
The DVD is slim on special features, but the one special feature it has is Sing Along songs of four songs from the episodes. The songs are In the Middle of the Summer from the Summer Cooler episode, Falling for Fall from the episode of the same name, and Good Morning and Weather from the All-Weather Bear episode. These sing alongs are fun for kids that like the music in this show, which is one of the best aspects of the show.
