As expected, Tom Hanks pulls this movie off all by himself. With the exception of the very beginning and end of the movie, don't expect to see anyone else besides Tom. Playing a FedEx head-honcho employee Chuck, Tom Hanks embodies every aspect of a stranded cast away throughout the entire movie. I was moved, frightened, and enlightened through out the whole film. This movie was a very refreshing change of pace from those that have been flooding the theaters of late.
Also participating in this venture is Helen Hunt. As the love interest left behind, you get a glimpse of her and their relation before the island... and experience the suspense of how it will all end up. Through her small, yet integral, part Helen Hunt does another amazing job on screen portraying Kelly.
If you go into the movie expecting the action of Mission Impossible 2, or the beauty of Vertical Limit... you may be somewhat disappointed. However, if you go in to it looking for something completely separate and new, you will be pleasantly delighted. Some found the ending a bit hard to grasp. I have friends who still can't determine what their feelings are in that respect. This alone makes the movie so important and interesting to me. How would you react under the circumstances?
