Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Okay. So it can't be said that I didn't know what I was going myself into when I ordered this DVD from Netflix for my fiancee and I to watch. I was expecting stupid, slapstick humor, and that's what we got. No surprises here.
Nonetheless, even though I knew what I was getting myself into, I still can't bring myself to give this movie all that many stars. There was simply just no redeeming talent or writing that is deserving of a good review in this movie.
The so-called plot
I suppose you could compare this movie to Road Trip. (Several of the same actors as well.) It has that same totally and utterly nonsensical humor to it. Only Road Trip had a more defined plot than Dude, Where's My Car?.
Ashton Kutcher plays "Jesse" and Seann William Scott plays "Chester" (from Road Trip), two friends who wake up after a night of debauchery and can't remember everything.
They need to piece back together the night to find Jesse's missing car, and to figure out why so many strange things are happening to them the following day.
One plot line is that apparently Jesse and Chester made a deal with a transexual stripper to harbor several hundred thousand dollars, and they have to find the money the next day or they will be in trouble with this stripper.
Another plot line is that they are trying to win over their "twin" girlfriends (who never have one independent line from one another and always answer in unison) on their dual-anniversary.
The third and most absurd storyline is that Jesse and Chester came across a special alien transporter device the night before, and they are being sought out by three different groups on the day after to get this device.
In reality
The movie is really mostly about sex, women's breasts, and stupid people. Character development? Zilch. Charcater interaction? If you count one word sentences back and forth as a means of communication, well I suppose you could say there was a little.
Have fun with it
But hey, like I said earlier, we knew what we were getting into. And we laughed. It was dumb but we laughed, and we made the most of it. If this movie was still in the theatre, I would say wait for it on video -- and since I saw it on video and it's now out, would I recommend it? I suppose I would, if it were on HBO or something. (Don't waste your money on a rental.)
I would say this movie could reach it's peak of prime viewing time at the end of a long night when you've had a few drinks and aren't looking to think about anything.
Check it out dude, there's even a website
I am actually very impressed with the Dude, Where's my Car website, which is appropriately located at http://www.dudewheresmycar.com. A nice Flash intro greets the user and there is plenty of content to occupy your time here.
