This tear-jerker is all about Novalee Nation, a 17 year old with no real family, a passion for photography and a spite for the number 5.
A pregnant Novalee is stranded in an Oklahoman Wal-mart, after her selfish, wannabe-rocker boyfriend dumped her. There Ms Strong Name gives birth to her "Wal-Mart Baby" whom she names "Americus" an equally strong name. and before you know it, she and the baby are celebrities. The once-urchin teen now has a job, a home (thanks to a religious, eccentric, kind couple), a friend who isnt in great shape to help herself and a lover.
And thats where the story pauses..and the movie sort of drags itself to the end.
There are several other flaws. The story doesnt flow. Its a jig saw puzzle of bizarre incidents that some idiot tried to put together.
Why would Willy Jack leave Novalee's polaroid behind when he dumped her. I mean he didnt seem like he had a heart anyways. Where the heart is ?
Good actresses like Sally Field and Joan Cussack are wasted..ok there are in a cameo. Somehow, I dont understand phoney southern accent in movies. Its a downer. The hatred for the number 5 and not 6 or 7 or even 1, because 5 is pronounced very peculiarly in a southern accent. Oh Puhlease.
I wasnt expecting much from the movie anyways. But I like Natalie Portman (she is very cute). I personally dig Ashley Judd. Unfortunately Ashley's wardrobe sucks. Credit goes to the women for great performances.
I should rather have stayed home.. where the heart is.
