Paladia's Full Review: Bellydance Fitness for Beginners - Basic Moves
Plot Details: This opinion reveals no details about the movie's plot.
I ran across this gem on sale and snatched it up on a whim. I haven't exercised in over a year, and decided this would be my talisman. Bellydancing is ancient, and like most dancing, helps to tone the hips, thighs and buttocks. The moves within this instructional tape do just that: tone. This routine is for beginners, and would have to fit in with the 'yoga' days for an avid exerciser, unlike myself.
Veena and Neena, identical twins, lead you through a fun routine with smiles and grace. They are slim and svelte, beginning with slow movements and giving good cues in plenty of time. The pace gradually builds, but remains very low-impact as one foot stays on the ground at all times. If you're looking to learn a complete dance to try out on company later on, perhaps you should chose another title from the bellydance exercise shelf.
The workout is very basic, starting with arm and wrist movements, then moving down the body to hips and waist. The twins demonstrate proper form in snake arms, hip drops, and a variety of shimmies. Every new move is introduced, demonstrated, and repeated before the tempo increases. Not to make it sound like a walk in the park, however. I was breathing hard within 10 minutes, but for someone in good shape - they won't break a sweat.
The music is Arabian and pleasant, with nice camera angles and good sound quality to make following the steps and moves as easy as possible. The set has an Arabian theme to it also. You'll get approx. 25 minutes: a warm-up with stretches, a workout, and a cool-down/stretch. Afterward, there's a brief dance in full regalia that's interesting to watch. I was sore the next day, having used muscles not normally even awake, by the way. The best thing about this tape was the way I felt afterward-rejuvenated and graceful.
