slimshady71487's Full Review: Mortal Kombat - Annihilation
Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
The second movie in the Mortal Kombat series wasn't all terrible, but boy did it suck in comparison to the first one.
The plot this time is that after Liu Kang, Princess Kitana, Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage defeated Shang Tsung to win the Mortal Kombat tournament and save Earth for a new generation until the next tournament started, the four heroes returned to Earth to celebrate with the god of thunder, Raiden. Shortly after their arrival a new menace opened the portals between worlds and bought his self and his goons to Earth to start a new tournament early. He calls himself Shao Kahn and his followers are Sindel, his girlfriend and mother of Princess Kitana (raised from the dead by Shao Kahn and turned evil), Baraka, Cyrax, Motaro, Sheeva, Rain, Ermac, Noob Saibot, Smoke, Mileena and many more. When Sonya sees all the people they have to battle, she enlists the help of one of her old special agent buddies named Jax who has had cybernetic modifications on his arms that give him superhuman strength. Meanwhile, Liu Kang has been told by Raiden to seek out a man known as Nightwolf to help train him to beat Shao Kahn and since Raiden has no powers in Outworld, he trades in his immortality to be able to help fight along with the heroes from the last movie.
Robin Shou plays Liu Kang again and he is still as amazing as he was in the first movie. Princess Kitana is once again played by Talisa Soto and she and Liu's relationship is better developed in this movie. James Remar plays Raiden and I think the part should have been left to Christopher Lambert. Sandra Hess plays Sonya Blade and she is okay at times but kind of boring at others. Chris Conrad plays Johnny Cage and he was terrible in this movie seeing as how he died in the first ten minutes. Litefoot plays Nightwolf and he is perfect in the role of the Indian warrior seeing as how he is an Indian himself. Lynn Williams plays Jax and he is exactly how I imagined him to be from playing the games. Brian Thompson plays Shao Kahn and I think he was a little too juvenile to play the role as Shao Kahn is older and more experienced than he is. Deron McBee plays Motaro and he is perfect as the centaur, Musetta Vander plays Sindel and I thought her performance was marvelous seeing as how she embodies the exact persona of Sindel from the games. Marjean Holden plays Sheeva and she looks exactly like she did in the game and I loved the special effects to make it look like she has four arms. Irina Pantaeva plays Jade and she too is amazing as she really did make me believe she was the girl from the video games. J.J. Perry plays a dual role as Cyrax and Noob Saibot and I thought he did simply amazing as Noob Saibot was my favorite character from the game and he looks just like him. John Medlen plays Ermac and even though I didn't like the character when I played the game, I thought that his interpretation of Ermac was amazing. Tyrone Wiggins plays Rain and as one of my favorite characters from the game, I thought his performance was really good. Dennis Keiffer plays Baraka and I thought he looked just like the one on the game. Ridley Tsui played Smoke and he was great and I thought he really gave it his all to play role. Dana Hee plays Mileena and she is exactly like Princess Kitana which is good because Mileena looks just like Kitana in the game as well.
From the extensive list of actors and actresses to the way that the director threw in too much stuff to really concentrate on the plot was what made this movie stink. The first movie was awesome because it focused on certain characters and had a great story. This one is exactly the opposite. Although it is a great movie for fans of the game, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't familiar with the games because it could confuse some.
