Thanks to this movie, I know more about dinosaurs than I ever hoped to know. My son, 7 years old at the time of this movie's release, had to have every dinosaur book ever written. He was the first to point out that many of the dinosaurs featured in the movie were not of the Jurassic time. Oh well, small point. This movie deserved every award it won. I especially loved Jeff Goldblum's character. His dry wit and character gave the comic relief. The best line in the movie, when he was looking at Dinosaur do-do, was, "Now that is one big pile of s**t." (I only wish that at the time someone would have told me to bring a change of underwear. This movie scared the you-know-what out of me.)
The sound effects alone had me crawling out of my seat. The low vibration rumble when the T-Rex was coming had me chewing my fingernails. And when the T-Rex was chasing the jeep, and the camera zoomed to the side-mirror warning--"Objects in mirror are closer than appears"--I was both laughing and crawling out of my seat.
The velociraptors were scarier than the T-Rex. Man, those are mean little buggers. Well, little compared to the T-Rex. The children out-smarting the beasts in the kitchen gets me every time.
And something I really liked--FOR ONCE THE GIRL IS THE SMART ONE! I get so sick of the stupid girls tripping and slowing everyone up; the "Ooh, I broke a nail" crowd. Lex saves the day with her computer skills.
Of course, I had to see it four or five times in the theater, and we bought the video. Every time I view this movie it takes weeks for my fingernails to grow back. I know this movie is old, but for you that have not seen this movie yet, I highly suggest you buy the video. Be prepared to be scared. It might be too intense for very young children. The dinosaurs are very realistic and like to chomp people.
