I went to see Fantasia 2000 becuse I love animation, and Animation on the Imax is a MUST for me. Every one has seen the origional Fantasia, some people love it and some hate it, others just don't get it. I think that the same will be true of Fantasia 2000 but the good news is that this is still one heck of a good movie. The animation it's self is breath taking and whitty at the same time, so often good animation is backed by poor direction or lack luster subject matter, but in Fantasia2000 you have a real good blend of both.
As in the origional Fantasia, this one combines animation and orchastrated music to make a sensation out of a movie rather than tell just a story. Fantasia2000 has a very good range of diffirent animation styles that it draws from to use with all the various types of music that they have decided to use. Using both computer Generated Images and classical pen and ink animation the disney animators capture the realism of whales at sea as well as the whimsical 50's 'New Yorker' styles seen in the blues number that's done (I'm straing to think of the name!). They have also captured the Dark and powerfull side of the disney style with the 'Fire bird' at the end, more than reminscent of "a night on bald mountain". But none of that does you any good if you didn't care for the first Fantasia.
One thing that is worth the trip to see the movie, even if you don't like the animation/music combo, is going to see a Disney animated feature on Imax. The Experince it's self is worth the time and money. It's very much like being enveloped in a movie and the world around you doesn't even exist, your very likely to walk out of the theater and be disapointed at the size of the building you were in becuse it seemed so much bigger!
On the down side, it may be kind of difficult to sit through this movie if you have a short attention spand or don't like classical and blues music or that style of music. I would not suggest that you take your four year old to see it, mabey your eight year old and of course your 14 year old might appreciate it alot,(especialy if they play an instrument in band or orchastra) but not toddlers and no annoying people who complain during "long parts" at other movies. Leave them at home. But for all the rest of us who like animation, music and a good night out, Fantasia 2000 is a good place to go!
