jlr29's Full Review: The Colour of My Love by Celine Dion
A lot of people are hard on Celine Dion. She does seem a little bit full of herself at times, but I give her the benefit of the doubt. She can't really help it, she's French (and French Canadian at that!). People make fun of her a lot, but she does have an incredible voice and makes generally good music (if you like that sort of thing).
As usual, I listened to the CD in question in my car prior to reviewing it. I must admit that I felt a little embarassed, as a young man in my twenties blasting Celine from my stereo. Ms. Dion is suppossed to only be played my middle-aged women in minivans. Nonetheless, I gritted my teeth and held my ground. I listened to the entire CD while driving, getting more and more mellow, and at times my eyes began to get heavy.
That's the excellent thing about Celine Dion. Her music is so soft and mellow that if you're panicked or sick, it will act as a tranquilizer. You don't need NyQuil to ensure a good night's rest after you buy this album. It's pretty much generic, formulaic soft rock/adult contemporary music. It's very predictable, which again will keep you from bolting awake.
As far as artistic and creative merits go, the contrived romantic lyrics and the slick production don't have much to offer. Frankly, I very rarely give this album a listen. Celine really can sing, though, give her that. And you really can sleep. Nighty-night.
