| sponkit's Full Review: Peter & Gordon by Peter & Gordon |
British Invasion was the invasion of rock and roll performers from the United Kingdom who became popular in the United States, Australia, Canada etc. The classic British Invasion happened during the period of 1964 to 1966. The invasion includes later "waves" of UK artists, which made important influence on entertainment in the music industry. If you want to hear music that could remind you the years of classic British Invasion, listening to the songs of Peter and Gordon is a wonderful idea.
Little trivia about the duo
Peter Asher and Gordon Waller started singing as a duo in the late 1963. They had a two-week booking at Pickwick Club in Londons West End which was a great start of their successful mid-sixties singing career.
The duo had a little influence from The Shadows.
The duo split up in September 1968. Gordon made a couple of records as a solo artist for E.M.I. Records while Peter focused on record production. In the autumn of 1968, Peter became A & R manager at the Apple Records.
The recording career of Peter and Gordon could be considered as relatively short compared to other recording artists but they managed to have millions of record sales around the world. They released 11 albums between 1964 and 1968.
The great tracks
Following the musical trend of British Invasion seems a good move for a duo as good as Peter and Gordon. Perhaps the listeners would wonder why a duo as talented as they are would release an album that sounds like the songs of the Beatles. It was because some of the songs released by Peter and Gordon were compositions of Paul McCartney.
With this album, the listeners could feel a soothing atmosphere of sentimental songs the minute they put the compact disk on. They wont feel frustrated when they hear the voices of the Peter and Gordon.
The album is composed of eighteen tracks: Lucille, Five Hundred Miles, If I Were You, Pretty Mary, Trouble In Mind, A World Without Love, Tell Me How, You Dont Have To Tell Me, Leave My Woman Alone, All My Trials, Last Night I Woke, Long Time Gone, Soft As The Dawn, Lonely Avenue, Roving Rambler, Nobody I Know, I Go To Pieces, and World Without Love (Live version).
WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT IT?
Great album: The album is a great mix of love and sentimental songs. The lyrics of the songs are really good. All songs reflect pure sentimental thoughts like the song Five Hundred Miles.
Fine voices: The voices of Peter and Gordon sound fine because their voices complement each other. I like to listen to the wonderful songs like the song I Go To Pieces.
Exceptional composers: Behind every wonderful song is exceptional composer. There are songs that were composed by Paul McCartney like A World Without Love, Nobody I Know to name a few.
Realistic: The listeners of the songs could relate to the songs. Anybody could relate to the song A World Without Love.
Bonus Tracks: There are six bonus tracks that were added in this album. The bonus tracks include: Soft As The Dawn, Lonely Avenue, Roving Rambler, Nobody I Know, I Go To Pieces and World Without Love (Live version).
WHAT ABOUT THE BAD STUFF?
Nothing.
Final recommendation:
If you want to relive your sentimental thoughts, you should buy the album of Peter and Gordon. I like the duo of Peter and Gordon because their voices complement each other. If you want to hear great music, you should listen to the songs of Peter and Gordon.
