shaylamyst's Full Review: Ghost of a Rose by Blackmore's Night
Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night team up again in this Renaissance /Medieval/ Minstrel album. Some of you may already know that Blackmore is from Deep Purple (I just found out) and may be familiar with his superb relationship with a guitar. You wont be disappointed with Ghost of a Rose. This album contains a beautiful rendition of Joan Baez's "Diamonds and Rust" which is nearly as great as the original as well as Rainbow Blues from Ian Anderson. Candice Night's voice has a quality hard to find in this day and age of hip-hop and rap. Just listening to the music from this group will make you want to don your coolest Renne Faire costume, lift your flagon of mead and dance the night away. Most of the songs sound as though they are tales and ballads of olde mixed with a great modern beat. If you like to belly dance, this music can add an extra flair to your routine. The beat stays steady while the music lifts your spirits. While I've only been listening to this group since summer 2007, I've fallen in love with the haunting beauty of the music. Even my 15-year-old son enjoys listening to this album (and he's very into heavy metal). This album was given to me by a friend and Im looking forward to buying the rest.
