| manky's Full Review: Llegar a Ti by Jaci Velasquez |
Jaci Velásquez's first two albums showcase her diverse vocal abilities, and deep lyrical choices. This album is no different in these aspects. Jaci has chosen to release an album recorded entirely in spanish this time, featuring five original titles and the remaining are translations of past songs.
Mixing a variety of tempos and vocal intonations, this album has a little bit of everything for every mood. Being someone who specifically pays attention to lyrics, I'd recommend this soley to spanish speakers... however if you feel comfortable listening to something and not understanding every single word, this would be a great album. The music and vocal connotation are powerful with or without comprehension of every single lyric.
The album is kicked off by the powerful salsa of Con Tu Amor. Jaci shows joy, singing about how with God's love she has power, peace, and can do just about anything! If this doesn't get you at least rocking in your seat... if not dancing all out, your missing out on something!
Next comes the title track Llegar A Ti, a slower song still full of power. Speaking of the struggle to get closer to God and to reach him... creating that closeness with him we all long for daily!
Also included are many songs Jaci has done before in her first two albums, but this time their in spanish. These include Un Lugar Celestial, the title track off of her first album which was originally done bilingually (with a spanish chorus only); De Creer En Ti (On My Knees), Mira Lo Que Has Hecho En Mi (Look What Love Has Done), Dentro Está Tu Voz (Little Voice Inside), Como Una Flor (Flower in The Rain,) one of my all time favorite, heart touching songs...; & finally Al Mundo Dios Amó (God So Loved) which was actually fully featured as the final track on her last album.
A couple of other "get up and go" tracks include Manantial de Caricias celebrating putting everything in God's control and rejoicing in your love for Him, and Junto A Mi noting a new start with God by your side, it Him, only Him who is next to me when I need it most!
Overall, this is a great album with a little bit for everyone... and even more for those who like everything from dance tracks to ballads. To date this is one of the best spanish christian albums I've heard by anyone who usually performs in music in english. Unfortunately, most of the others I'd recommend under this genre are unavailable in the United States...
