manky's Full Review: Veggie Tunes 2 by VeggieTales
The VeggieTales are back and grooving once again with lovable songs from Rack, Shack, & Benny, Dave & The Giant Pickle, Josh & The Big Wall, and Larry-Boy & The Fib From Outer Space. From serious songs that will encourage your children (and maybe even you too) to do what's right, to silly songs with Larry that make almost no sense to uptight adults... This album is jam packed with fun.
Those that are familiar with VeggieTales videos will be pleasantly delighted each time they listen to these songs. Images of each scene will pop into their mind and memory. I love to put this album on when spending time with my favorites little kids. Their eyes light up, and they talk all about what's going on in the story during the song being played!
For mere fun, and a clearer picture, I'm going to go through a complete run down of the songs involved in this album:
As any good soundtrack should, this one kicks it off with The VeggieTales Theme Song. Almost all of the VeggieTale videos feature this song in the beginning as a cue for kids of what's to come!
"And now it's time for Silly Songs with Larry..." The Dance of the Cucumber is hands-down one of my absolute favorite silly songs. Supposedly Larry is singing an authentic Argentine ballad, while Bob angrily translates. The Spanish used was very Mexican, if not a US mix of some sort, definitely not Argentine, but this does not take away from the hysterity of the situation.
Every time I say "Good Morning" to some one, I think of (and almost start singing) Good Morning George. Depicting a day in the life of the weary factory workers, this song is exaggeration to the tee. With catchy rhymes and rhythm, it's a great lead into the Rack, Shack, & Benny portion.
When in a difficult situation, Junior Asparagus (portraying Rack) remembers Think of Me, a song his mother sang to him showing him that by obeying whether she's around or not, makes them closer even when apart!
Since the whole point of the video was that Rack, Shack, & Benny weren't doing what every one else was. The Bunny Song (reprise) is included rather than the whole song. Mr. Nebby K Nezzer wanted them to sing this song about how they would do anything for "the bunny". When the Sing-A-Long came about, The New & Improved Bunny Song was born. Featuring the same sound as the forbidden version, this one tells how sick everyone got from eating too much bunny!
Nebby K Nezzer was so impressed by these three guys, he joined them in singing Stand. He was just learning about how important it is to be yourself and not give in to what everyone else is doing.
During the credits Stand (reprise) was played. It's simply an instrumental version of the same song, riding on the groovy jazz life riffs!
Next up, Larry explains to his therapist, "I Love My Lips" With no real point other than to get you to laugh at silly situations, and sing impossible lyrics, this is a hit with many!
Dave explains to the king that he can do Big Things Too, before heading off to battle Goliath. Showing that little guys can... with God!
Larry shared more humorous musings at the end of the Silly Sing-Along with The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. A trio of veggie, lounging around in cushy chairs, singing all about the things they've never, nor would ever.
After Junior breaks his dad's coveted plate he bids that It's Laura's Fault. Then it becomes Lenny's fault... then it becomes a huge Fib. Where's a hero when you need him?
Oh here he is: Larry-Boy comes to the rescue of Bumblyburg with his snazzy theme song. Proclaiming his hero-dom, Larry rocks the mic like a vandal!
Dreaming of the Promised Land, Josh and his people prepare for their journey with dreams of all the tasty treats they'll find in this mysterious place! (Very reminiscent of the mice in An American Tale singing There Are No Cats In America)
When travelers get weary, Josh attempts to reassure them in knowing that The Lord Has Given them this land.
Jean Claude & Phillipe make their duet singing debut with these great tune. They tease Josh and the others, telling them to Keep Walking, as if the wall's gonna fall (laughing hysterically at the silly vegetables.)
Again Junior reminds everyone that The Lord Has Given them this land with a (reprise). Also, included is The Promised Land (reprise), another song played during the credits... all instrumental.
Larry invites (err, sells tickets to...) everyone to see his slide show/movie to the tune of The Song of the Cebu. A mouthful of rhymes and randomness... one might ask, exactly what is a cebu, listen and you'll see (or hear).
"And so What We Have Learned..." is always a lesson of life, God's word, and simple fun. Bob can't stand this song and does everything possible in each episode to avoid it's cue! A great acappella, almost jingle-esque ditty.
Now you've come to the end... sad I know, but you can always play it again, and this time I'd encourage you to either sing along, get up and dance, or do both!
