hppycamper's Full Review: A Maze of Grace by Avalon (Christian)
I bought Avalon's A Maze of Grace to give to my sister as a gift and decided to open it up and listen to it before she got it. (I'm just that kind of sweet brother.) Well, she ended up getting something else because I kept that CD.
One word could describe the harmony and sound of these voices: awesome. The group is composed of 2 guys and 2 girls, so they can play around with harmonies and get a really great and varied sound with each song. Many of these songs could almost sound like a totally different group, as they do not have one set lead vocalist or anything like that - sometimes the lead is a guy, others it's one of the girls. (I think some of the member's of the group have changed since this CD came out, but still the same great sound.)
Some of my favorite songs on this CD include the first one, Testify to Love, which has a very upbeat tempo and is fun to sing along. I like the #3 track, A Maze of Grace (also the title track) for about the same reasons as the first, along with #4 Knockin' On Heaven's Door. There are only 3 songs on the album that are not fast-paced, upbeat and fun songs, but 2 of the 3 just happen to be my favorites: #5 Adonai which is absolutely beautiful, and #8 Reason Enough which has a wonderful message. The last track is the other slow paced song, but also a good one.
Overall, I'd say this album is a must-have for any CCM fan or would be a good one to start with if you are not familiar with contemporary Christian music. Oh, and my sister did end up buing this CD herself, thanks to my recommendation.
