| davegvg's Full Review: Wallpaper* Magazine |
This is the magazine to get if you globally travel frequently on business, or if you just like looking at gorgeous expensive things. I vehemently disagree with some that say the tone of this magazine is that they are better than you, and that life is necessarily better in 2000.00 shoes. But folks lets face it, youll probably look just a bit better and be a bit more comfortable if you are wearing Mahnolo Blahniks latest sling back, sporting a Jaeger Lecoultre ladys reverso Duo and carrying a Ghurka bag while heading from La to Amsterdam in the first class cabin drinking wine and reclining completely horizontally.
Funny, it fits in my Tumi bag just fine?
Although pretentious, its still several steps down from the offensive arrogance of the Robb Report- this magazine has something for everyone that travels weather you have money or not-doesnt mean you do or dont have some taste.
The Chicks- Yes the models do often come in Scandinavian flavors, however if youre a regular you do get a bit of everything, from gorgeous Asian ladies with appendectomy scars, to exotic Congo queen types, Wallpaper flat sizzles and the ad space is always loaded with smoking hot babes. Sex definitely helps sell.
The Guys- although not my official topic- they are looking pretty good too (yes fully 1/4 the time in Nordic flavors) - younger than you and I by about 15 years and in better shape (although no slob myself) No doubt guys this age unless princes, sons of large corporations, and or inheritance children, dude this age dont sport this kind of cash.
The Recipies- Usually served up on a minimalist setting with impossibly tiny proportions of simple but actually very tasty if food thats probably really about the right amount if you live anywhere but in North America. Im including you Canadians. Occasionally the backdrop will be immensely artful and the recipes somewhat bizarre, and Ultra European but thats infrequently.
The Destinations and Recommendations- A significant portion of every wallpaper magazine id dedicated to the sights, restaurants, and must dos of each particular city around the globe- Wallpaper finds the some of the hippest places in the world. Hotels restaurants, hang outs and shopping places and area are all listed and briefed in a fantastic plasticized tear out called a city guide you can bring with you. Always classy, but not always brutally expensive the destinations have been pretty solid. As a world traveler I know, because I have tried hem out. BUT let there be no doubt, you are not being guided on a 49.00 a day kind of trip. For those of us without the bucks to fly first class, there is ambien.
The Articles- Unique buildings, new ideas, hip designers, gorgeous interiors, art , fashion, entertaining all covered and looking like out of a wet, money laden dream. Interviews with people that have built, designed, painted, composed, and actually done things as opposed to hearing about John Travoltas third airplane, or Michael Jacksons latest nocturnal habits.
The Stuff- Kitchens, lights, furniture, everything you want but dont know it yet is in there waiting for you to see it and hopefully buy it. Creams, emollients, the newest scents your babe will no doubt seek out one or two. I find Wallpaper usually gets to the good stuff there ahead of almost everyone. When it came time to rebuild after my divorce I went searching through 4 years of wallpaper to find that light I remembered and sure enough about 30 into the stack I found it- now its mine. Sure you cant have it all, and at his level of purchasing I can pretty much guarantee you wont.
The Verdict, although none of us can truly live here, we can visit occasionally, and pick up a piece here and there. Wallpaper is well worth the bucks and the 5 year old ones still look as hip as the new ones. Of all the throw away garbage out there this is one of a few worth having and preserving.
Recommended, absolutely, up there with food and drink
