| XoAnGeLoX's Full Review: All About You Magazine |
OK, first of all, what is up with the title "All About You"? This magazine is NOT about the inner teen ... actually it's about horoscopes and quizzes and makeup ... oh my! I'm seriously convinced that AAY is written by a bunch of 12 year olds without a clue. I personally DON'T care about my star potential ... or about the dumb things a bunch of adolescents do to embarrass themselves ... or how to win over a my crush's heart. Gag me.
I really wish there were more teen magazines out there trying to persuade teens to keep it real. Do what YOU want to do, not what may be trendy at the time. Why can't more magazines be sending out those messages? Sure, AAY does have articles about how to build self-confidence and why it's good to be yourself. But then, at the turn of a page, you're back in the scary "How Well Do You Shop?" quiz land. Kinda defeats the purpose, huh?
Speaking of quizzes ... what the &*@%? They cannot be serious! I don't know many teenagers who give two hoots about whether or not they're sending the right signals to guys or if they're high maintenance. At least I don't, anyway. Maybe the AAY staff should take out a couple hundred pages of quizzes and replace them with more important info. How teens can learn to feel good about themselves. Why dieting isn't the answer. Wouldn't that be a little more worth their time? In 10 years from now, I'm not going to care about the hottest color for my eyeshadow, or the hippest style of shoes I can buy. I am going to care about being myself, and knowing that I'm a good person.
Screw beauty and makeup. Teens need a worthwhile magazine they can turn to.
(I suggest Twist and Teen People. Sure, they're not perfect, but they're also don't display that shallow quality AAY possesses.)
