Recently my house went under a total destruction renovation type of work thingy, or whatever you may want to call it. In other words, we got a new kitchen costing us over $13,000 since we wanted it to look beautiful with brand new appliances, new cabinets and new tiles. Upon the selection of brand new, sparkling clean and well working appliances, we chose Whirlpool for all of our appliances.
This was our first time choosing a Whirlpool product, but after seeing several commercials with my wife, we decided it was the way to go. We both agreed that the looks are excellent and go well with the kitchen which has dark ivory tiles and tanish cabinets. The dishwasher that was being advertised was one similar to the one we got: the Whirlpool Gold series #GU1500XTLT.
Storage
The dishwasher is chrome silver with the buttons and tabs in black at the top of the dishwasher. The buttons are large enough where you wont accidentally hit another button and never brake. The dishwasher is also very durable and can hold a considerable amount of weight.
The GU1500XTLT can fit a lot of cups and plates and makes use of all its space. The top rack and bottom rack hold about five pieces of dishes in each of the three rows. There are about 15 cup shelves (give or take) on the top rack, flip away plate holders and flexible tines.
One of my favorite features of the dishwasher is its silverware rack. It is very slim and long and holds a lot of silverware while still taking up little space. It sits in the front of the bottom rack and is removable. The rack is split up into about four groups. This helps stop the silverware pieces from falling and gives it a better cleaning. However, the silverware rack often opens by accident. It would be nice if there was a small tab that would keep the rack closed.
Performance
The dishwasher used to wash extremely well. The first few months that we had it, everything was spotless and absolutely no water marks. This used to be the best thing that happened to us since sliced bread! But now that's all changed.
This dishwasher officially sucks. There are still bits of food left on the plates, bowls, and pots. There's many water marks as the kitchenware is not dried completely. So if I have to rinse my dishes, put them in the washer, then take out the dishes and scrape off the food, then why do I have a dishwasher?
Wash Cycles & Options
These are the modes and wash cycles the dishwasher offers for when washing the dishes:
~ Anti-Bacterial
~ Pots & Pans
~ Normal
~ China Crystal
~ Quick Wash
~ Rinse Only
Here are a few options the Whirlpool Gold GU1500XTLT offers:
~ Soak & Scour
~ Hi-Temp Scour
~ Sani Rinse
~ Air Dry
My Experience
Ive enjoyed the dishwasher a lot in the past. Nothing beats not having to wash the dishes. We liked to use the China Crystal wash mode when we use fancy dishes when guests come over. I usually used the Normal wash mode which washes just as well as the other cycles. However, now I'm slowing down the use of the washer. Though it's quiet and easy to use, it no longer gets the job done of washing the dishes. The dishes will actually get a better cleaning if they're done by hand.
Final Thoughts
I would definitely not recommend the Whirlpool dishwasher anymore. It doesn't clean the dishes well and doesn't dry well. On the bright side, it's quiet, holds a lot of silverware and plates, and looks stylish. But the point is that the dishwasher doesn't get the job down, so there's no reason of having it.
