| onabreak2's Full Review: AAA - Auto |
We had AAA years ago and were always happy with it. I thought it was real good and reliable if you broke down and needed a tow. Of course it would pay for itself the first time you used any of its services. So last year we bought a used RV and bought the AAA RV Premium. The one that would tow you up to 100 miles if you needed them to. I never read contracts. I go by what the reps say. As it turned out we have had it for a year and never had to use it. I traded the RV off for a new car so don't really need the AAA RV premium, but was going to renew the membership for our auto's . Till tonight that is.
Tonight we sold our old 1988 Ford Festiva, which my husband has been hanging onto like a binky blanket. I bought it when my first Granddaughter was born so we would have a safe car to drive her around in. He took her for many rides up and down the highway to get her to go to sleep. But I digress. Anyway I told him the car had to go. It was an eye sore. It just had been sitting out there collecting cobwebs.
So tonight a lady that loves Festiva's bought the car. She had AAA Premium and called them to tow it to her home a distance from here.
She told the AAA Rep where the car was located , that it had bad brakes and she was afraid to drive it that distance. She told them it had expired plates. She did not misrepresent herself or the car in any way.
The AAA Rep said no problem and she would send a tow truck out to get it. Which she did. The problem began when the tow truck got here. The driver called the Lady's card number in and told the lady because the car had expired plates they would not tow it.
I asked the driver why the lady at triple A would tell her that it would be towed knowing the plates were expired. He said, well its summer and they hire a lot of students that are off for the summer and they don't really always know what they are talking about. He said if you look at your contract you will see this and you will see that.
I said , You mean Triple A lets reps say whatever they want to say and then they don't come through for the customer. The tow truck driver was a really nice guy but he kept making one excuse after the other for AAA and they all came back to the fact that they had lied to this lady and would not tow her car. Even though they said they would .
Now if this lady had lied to the AAA rep and said it had current tags , I could see them refusing to tow it. But she didn't. She told them the truth and they lied to her. They wasted a big chunk of my time.
I live in Oregon City, the lady lives in St. Helens, Oregon . This is not just a hop skip and a jump from here. The tow truck driver was nice but with gas prices the way they are and the big honking truck he brought to carry her car to her house he was going to charge her 120.00.
She didn't have $120.00. So I gave her 100.00 of her money back to go with the 20.00 she has so she could get it home safely.
Now I am not happy with Triple A and will go with the Good Sam service . I figure if they let the reps lie about that and don't honor what the customer is told then I don't want to and wont do business with them.
I hate to write bad reviews about companies , but I figure if this saves some one else from getting triple A for the purpose of getting a car they just bought home for them if it breaks down and has expired tags then Good.
