I use credit card for the same reasons - that's why I don't even carry a "real" card. I shop for card that has some real reward, reap the reward and go. But Discover's scaled reward is not the best you can have unless you use it that much - not many merchants will allow you to. And customer service reps are about the worst amongst financial institutions. Glad you spelled the word "almost hostile". Exactly how I felt some times.
But when I tried to close my account, they were unwilling. One promoter even called my home to offer, after I refused several suggestions, a cash advance with no fee, at 0% APR for the life of the loan! At that point, I suddenly became skeptical and declined. Maybe I should have taken the free lunch.

in fact, I hate all credit cards. When I turned 18 I got three...now I owe about $3,000 to each of them...aaaggghhh...
