After my DVD collection hit 140, I decided to go out and buy a DVD changer that could handle this many DVD's. I decided to go with Sony's 200 DVD changer after having good luck with Sony products.
Needless to say, entering 200 discs and then titling them was not very fun. Even though the keyboard function does speed the process, it is still labor intensive. Sony needs to rethink the software that the unit uses. It is not very user friendly and very limited in what it can store.
With the software you can create 4 user define genres to place your movies into, but you can only address 3 letters to each genre. Comedy would become (Com) or drama become (Dra). Not very friendly considering the price. And 4 does not seem like much when you consider CD's into the mix.
The audio was great, via the digital outputs but the picture seemed a little blurry, missing that certain sharpness that I have in my Pioneer Elite DV-05 unit. I had to place both units side by side in a primitive A/B setup but it was a big difference in picture quality. I have seen single Sony Dvd players that look better. I would think the units would use the same decoder but it seems not to be. Granted the pioneer unit is a reference piece, but I still expected the Sony to hold up it's own.
Connection wise, you should have enough for even the most complicated Home theatre setup. Two s-video, composite(2) and component(1).
The remote is a mix blessing. It fits in your hand well, and the buttons are clearly labeled, but the keys are not backlit. A major pain when you are watching movies at night. Not a great design in this aspect and price range. Lucky for me I have a phillip Pronto remote control. I downloaded the codes into my unit and now use this. I recommend the phillips to anyone that takes their systems seriously.
Overall,I feel that I should have waited for the new Sony 300+1 unit. I hear that it has a better design then the 850 and has a better picture. I feel that Sony may have rushed this unit without carefully evaluating the user friendly aspect. This unit should be fun to operate, but the software, remote control and picture quality leave much to be desired.
