| Chris72's Full Review: Samsung AVR 7000 6.1 Channels Receiver |
This is one great receiver! I had been in the market for a DVD player and realized that my current receiver (which is only 3 years old) is not compatible with today's digital capabilities. So, of course, I decided to upgrade. This receiver is fantastic! It has all the possible digital inputs that I could ever want with the flexibility to add more. All in all, I could have 5 video inputs and my CD player wired into this, plus capability to expand to 6.1 audio. Incredible!
When I started looking at receivers, I first had to judge what was more important to me - home theater or music. Unquestionably, it is music. I had a Yamaha receiver which gave great home theater sound, but didn't have digital inputs. I would recommend Yamaha to anyone who was really into home theater because it has great sound and their surround modes add a lot of variety. However, for the musical capability I was looking for, this HK hit the spot!
The musical ability of this unit is incredible! When I hooked it up in my house, I could immediately tell a difference between the HK and my old receiver. The HK's clear, crisp sound is outstanding and the bass tones are absolutely wonderful. It can handle any range of noise without becoming distorted. The musical surround modes process through all 5 speakers and fill the room, although for pure listening pleasure I actually prefer to use only the front two speakers. The sound is clearer and the bass fills the room better. For home theater, there is no comparison between this one and my old one. The sound seems to completely surround me and simply fill the room with great acoustics!
I love the relative simplicity of this unit. While some companies try to wow you with 30 different listening modes, HK only offers a handful. That seems to indicate where their priorities are - quality sound without a lot of hype. Just a great receiver. And this one doesn't need the hype.
The remote is great, too. It's relatively easy to learn how to program, and in case you forget, the instructions are on the back. So far, it's been compatible with all my components.
The only problem I have found so far is that I don't have a TV with S-type or composite inputs on it, so I can't access the on-screen menu, which is a huge feature. That's now my next purchase priority.
I would recommend this product to ANYONE who is willing to spend this much money on a receiver. If you ever told me years ago that I would spend this much on stereo components and speakers, I would have told you that you were crazy. But now that I have them, I have absolutely no regrets. My biggest problem now is that I have become fairly picky about the quality of musical sound. I'm not an audiophile, but I've developed an ear to recognize quality sound. This is a great purchase, particularly for those who love good quality music.
