Pros: Can dial using keypad when hand unit numbers go bad
Cons: Too much programming and hand unit numbers go bad.
The Bottom Line: Panasonic makes good phones but this isn't one of them. Hangs up on people by accident! Went bad on me too quickly. Buttons get stuck and battery dies.

| billymuggins's Full Review: Panasonic KX TC1870 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
I bought this phone about 3 years ago after first buying a SONY and having all my friends tell me I sounded like I was under water, I was relieved to find one with good sound quality.
At first I liked the phone. It has a good range and the intercom function is nice if you lose the handset. The speaker phone feature is okay, but the sound quality for the speaker isn't that good so it's really a desperation measure if you just can't find the handset or the battery on the handset is dead (more on that later!).
But now that I've had the phone for almost three years, I have realized there are more things that bug me than I like about this phone.
First, it doesn't have a good layout for the buttons on the handset. The "TALK" (i.e. on/off) button is placed so that if you try to hold the phone in the crook of your neck while you use your hands to do something else, very often your cheek will press against the button and you will hang up on your friend (or parent or boss or client).
Second, it is a little obnoxious and unintuitive to program. I have to get the manual out every time I want to do something as simple as change the time.
About 6 months ago, my number '1' button on the handset got really stiff. Any number that requires me to dial a '1' (everything outside my area code!) is a hassle. If the handset does manage to respond to my figure-numbing pushes, I get two 1's instead of one. So I have to dial using the base unit. This is really inconvenient.
Now, the thing dies all the time. I recharge it all night and 10 minutes into the very first phone call I make after the charging the handset starts beeping at me. I have pulled out my good old-fashioned corded phone and I use that when I really want a high-quality long-term conversation with someone and can afford to stay in the same place as I talk. Maybe all the Panasonic needs is a brand new battery but given that it hasn't been that long, and I paid a lot of money for the phone about 2-1/2 years earlier, I am frustrated by having to buy a new battery. And since the phone is so annoying anyway, I think I would rather throw it away and buy and totally new phone than put money into a new battery for this stupid thing. It has more features that I really ever use anyway....like being able to forward calls to your pager...who has a pager any more these days?
