| tf0r1's Full Review: Verizon Online DSL (Eastern US) |
Finally the New Jersey shore gets broad band....Set up for Verizon DSL with Windows 98SE was a breeze, and I was off, maybe 15 minutes total set up time....Initially, a slight problem with the service "sticking" on web pages, although quite randomly, very annoying... I called customer support and spoke with probably one of the dumbest human beings I ever hope to meet...She wasted a lot of my time by having me crawl under my desk (repeatedly) and disconnect electical and phone plugs/jacks again, repeatedly...Only to have the same problem, still.....Two days later I called Verizon support expecting to cancel the DSL service due to the web page sticking issue, and I was pleasantly surprised...The tech understood my problem and was able to instruct me, on making a few simple configuration adjustments that totally solved my web page sticking issues, and that would ultimately make my DSL experience very cool....I have had this Verizon DSL service for about 7 months, I upgraded my computer to Windows 2000 professional, and the DSL went right with the upgrade with no problems, I was relieved...Then I upgraded again to Windows XP Professional, and with the exception of one small glitch, it performes quite well...
The DSL install package came before I expected it, about a week, my package included a free modem, free web cam, and three months of reduced rate. :) (with the 1 year contract)
Most of my friends have cable and at times they have a faster connection speed, but my connection speed is rock solid, it never changes, regardless of time, day, holiday, etc. I test my connection speed regularly, and it dosent seem to change, and thats where I believe the advantage is over cable, not to mention DSL is more secure then cable. I ve only had one outtage since install, and thats alot better then my old Internet Service Provider (dail up 56 K)..
I learned that with Verizon, if your support Tech seems to be a dope, simply hang up and call back...Verizon does have competent techs, but not all of them are....
Another nice feature is they include the DSL fee as part of my phone bill, and that to me is convenient, and did I mention I can use my DSL while Im talking on the phone, and it in no way effects my connection, gotta like that!!!
