Shecky's Full Review: Microsoft Intelli Optical (D58-00026) Mouse
In slightly less than 5 years, I've had 'em all...Trackballs (built-in to a laptop, and free-standing for a desktop) a Touchpad, and several mice. My one wish was to find a device that was sensitive and precise enough to navigate the screen without fits and starts, bumps and grinds or sluggish movements. When the Explorer was introduced, I had a feeling that we were almost there...but it felt too cumbersome in my hand, and frankly, I felt at $69.99, the price tag was too hefty. However, within a short time, I noticed two other, less expensive models sporting the same technology, and on a trip to Costco in May, I made optical-eye contact (for the third time) with *this* model, and my fate was sealed. We *had* to be together;)
In addition to being confident that this was the technology I'd been waiting for, I was also swayed by the price tag. It was an omen. <G>
This mouse is attractive, although that's not my personal criteria for choosing one. The most important consideration is performance, and this mouse deserves a standing ovation. It's designed to glide across virtually any surface without skipping. Its easy movement means less stress on fingers, hands and wrists, and less chance of tiring ones arms. I imagine this would be a tremendous concern for those, who like me, suffer from any number of maladies, including (but not limited to) carpal tunnel syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and other similar problems. It's also ideal for anyone who does computer work that requires precision--such as graphics. Until I began using this mouse, I had a horrendous time cropping and moving miniscule amounts.
Additionally, this mouse is sealed. If you work in an environment that's dusty, or resplendent with pet hair, you won't be ripping out your hair and pulling your (ball) apart for daily, or weekly attempts at cleaning. Work on a crowded desk? No problem. This mouse doesn't need to be level in order to perform--in fact, you don't even need a mouse pad!
As if the optical technology wasn't reason enough to love this mouse...it comes with a scroll wheel, too. Pretty much the standard these days, I know, but it makes this exceptional product even more special, so I felt it was worth a mention. It's a comfortable fit for left, or right handed people, and the only care it (occasionally) requires is wiping the dust off the sealed bottom with a soft cloth--because I *do not* use a mouse pad, and let's face it--dust happens.
This mouse comes with both USB and PS/2 connectors, and a software CD.
