bad_seed's Full Review: Microsoft Intelli Optical (D58-00026) Mouse
I bought the Microsoft Optical Intellimouse as a gift for someone, and I've ended up using it more than they do! I often work on a laptop perched on the sofa, and there's nowhere practical to place a conventional mouse and mousepad. Also, I really, really hate using that weird little laptop pointer thingy.
Anyway, this mouse really WILL work on just about any surface. You don't need a pad or even a smooth flat area. I run it across the upholstery on the sofa, and it works like a charm.
One of the other things I love about this product is that it works in either USB or serial ports. If you use the serial port, you miss out on a couple of really nifty features, but it's still a very usable and efficient mouse.
If you hook this up through your USB port, you have a keen scroll-wheel, and two very nice extra buttons on either side of the mouse that function as "forward" and "back" buttons when using a web browser. It's all very instinctive, making this mouse exceptionally easy to use.
