sweetcece's Full Review: Hewlett Packard (C7065B) Feeder / Tray for HP Lase...
It's inevitable. Things will go on quietly for several months and then you'll here the frantic voice on the other side of the phone line!
"We've had an accident in our office. When I was filling the paper tray for my HP 2200 on top of my desk, I didn't have a good hold on it and it went crashing down on the floor. Now it's broken in several pieces and we've got close to 500 letters to get out by the end of the day. Can you help us?"
Now, my first thought when hearing a call like this is to scream at the top of my lungs. However, that isn't professional needless to say, so I politely put them on hold and try to find a spare paper tray for them to put into their printer for a replacement until another one comes in.
The Replacement
True story, friends! And it happens more often than folks believe. That's why Hewlett Packard got really smart and started selling these paper trays as replacement accessories. The printer in question in my scenario is an HP 2200 DTN and yes, it's very likely that with one fluke drop on a hard floor, or several hits on semi-hard floors that the 500 page paper tray may break one day.
But, let me tell you a great secret about the HP 2200 DTN printer. They are one of the best workhorses that you could ever get for your business and if the only thing that ever happens to is it that the paper tray gets broken then you're doing great!
But anyway, back to the product.
Let's Fix The Problem!
Most times we don't have one of these spare trays laying in the box waiting for an accident to happen. What usually happens is that we take the tray from a spare printer that is not being used at the present time and then put it into the broken slot until we can order the tray a few days later.
Replacing the tray isn't any problem together. All you do is to put your fingers underneath the front part of the tray and slightly pull forward. The HP 2200 DTN will have a little catch when you first pull on it because the tray was securely inserted inside the printer. After you get over that initial hesitation though, all you do is to pull the rest of the tray out.
After inserting papers into the tray, you just do the process in reverse, making sure that you have firm hold of the tray and that the tray is not overfilled. There are marks on the trays that indicate capacity levels and these should be respected.
Really there's nothing to it, but when you go to the rescue of a frantic clerk who is about to flip out because she can't print her letters due that day, you'll look like a miracle worker.
Drawbacks
The major drawback to the 500 Sheet tray for the HP 2200 DTN is that it is very expensive. After all the printer itself costs about $1300 itself so the trays are not cheap! I've seen recently several stores that are selling these paper trays from between $175 to $230 a piece so it is really important to mention this to your end users.
There was a long standing policy in my former business that if you broke a piece of equipment, you were responsible for replacement. I'm sure that people wouldn't want to spend close to $200 of their own money to replace company equipment -- I know I wouldn't want to!
Recommendation
It's really rather silly to offer a recommendation on the 500 Sheet Laserjet 2200 feed tray, in my opinion. Either you're going to buy the product because you really need it or your not! HP's products are high quality though and I am sure that if you have a need to purchase a replacement 500 page tray, that it will because an accidental breakage and not one from wear and tear of the product itself.
These trays really are rather durable when handled properly and I know that once you have these trays installed in your unit that your end users will be thrilled to print 500 pages at one time without feeding the printer multiple times.
Therefore, I recommend the purchase of the 500 sheet HP Paper Tray for HP 2200 LaserJet printers.
