The FedEx 2day service is probably the most unreasonable service they offer. For a little less than the amount you pay for Standard Overnight, you get it delivered in two business days.
Along with the service comes the same quality that you would receive by sending your package overnight. A committed delivery time, a signature from the recipient, and FedEx’s quality. The delivery time they promise is 4:30 on the second business day. This means if you send a package on Monday, it will be delivered on Wednesday by 4:30 p.m., or 7:00 p.m. in residential areas. (I know this seams silly, but you’d be surprised how many people thing 2day means overnight. Because Monday and Tuesday is 2 days, right?) I send about 30 packages a week using the 2day service. Of these 30, I usually have trouble with one or two. This means they are being delivered later than 4:30, or sometimes FedEx takes them to the wrong address. With 2day service they have about a 97% success rate.
They always get a signature from the recipient; this can be faxed to you or in some occasions downloaded from their web site, www.fedex.com. This comes in extremely handy when you have sent packages to a hotel, and the desk manager loses it.
They do have a few restrictions including no more than 150 lbs., or nine feet in length. You can ship or receive 2day packages any day but Sunday.
The service is all very good, but for a few dollars more you can get overnight delivery. Also, for many dollars less you can ship express saver, which will be delivered in two or three days depending on your location.
Check out my profile page for more about different shipping options.
