Cadilac is back with an attempt to fight off all those neat new imports (g35, is300, maxima, 3.2CL, 3.5 TL). And they've come a long way!!
Make sure that you get the sport package. or else you might want to consider another vehicle, the sport package makes it comparable in my opinion to the above imports...
with the sport package comes an above average set of 17" Chromies that are brilliant! the wheel style definatly matches the car and they are wrapped in low profile, ZR rated rubber. Also, SportShift, HID's, BOSE, ONstar and NAV are nice options in the sport package.
The vehicle features a rugged 5-speed auto which is variable and will usually find the gear you are looking for. In Sportshift mode, the tranny will hold onto gears much longer (decelerating) and will let you take it right to the redline well into third and fourth without letting go if you ease of the gas. (i haven't pegged the redline in fifth yet) too fast!! you can count the gears by keeping track of the sounds and motion of the vehicle.
Anyone tried the 5-speed manual in this car yet??
The v6 produces ample power thruout the band and makes a good rumble. Rumor has it that a v8 will come around sometime near 2004 model year. with that power this car will compete with the 5 series BMW for sure. the handling is great for such a large vehicle and body roll is almost non existent.
Ride Quality suffers a little, only becuase of the rim/rubber match up, but it's well, well within tolerable limits, if you have driven an STS, it's not quite as soft and fluffy.
Interior gets all the usual luxury refinements, the steering wheel is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thick, well laid out, button controls for climate, radio etc, AND gorgeous wood grain finish. This car will easily accomidate 4 adults.
The trunk is big enough for golf clubs. =]
Only concerns is that car is sorta based on Catera, that's what i heard, Catera was known to have engine issues, what i dunno, but i've heard a couple of confirmed issues about detonation and such! We have owned the CTS now for 1 month and have had no issues whatsoever.
