| jo.com's Full Review: Worldwide Carbo Rush |
Recently the gym in which I work out at, World Gym, got in new products, one of which was Carbo Rush. I bought it once after my workout. This morning I was really dragging. I didnt have my oatmeal, I was up at 3:30, forgot my Xenadrine, and had only 1/2 a cup of regular coffee so once again I bought Carbo Rush.
What is Carbo Rush?
Carbo Rush is a liquid drink, which comes in a 20-ounce bottle that is nicely designed to be really easy to hold right in the middle. It is considered a dietary supplement and made by WorldWide Sport Nutritional Supplements. (Makers of Pure Protein Bar.)
There is a clear expiration date in the top of the bottle.
Carbo Rush is naturally and artificially flavored, has no added sugar, no aspartame and no artificial color. It also has 10 mg of sodium, 170 mg of potassium and 20 mcg of Chromium from 200 mcg of chromium ploynicotinate, called with a trademark name, ChromeMate. (A fat burner, many believe.)
Carbo Rush is a non-thermogenic, energy dietary supplement.
It has 280 calories which come from glycemically balanced (Too much glycemic food will give you an undesirable insulin response- in other words a high blood sugar level.) complex carbohydrate sources and 10 grams of Glycerol. (A trihydric alcohol found in all fats. Glycerol is a sweet, syrup-like liquid ) which will hydrate muscle (Not everyone believes that.*)
Other ingredients are: water, maltodextrin, citric acid, natural and artificial flavors, potassium benzoate and sorbate( preservatives), aceslifame potassium and sucralose. (non-caloric sweeteners)
The flavors it comes in are Orange, Grape and Fruit Punch. My gym has only had the orange flavor so far so that is what I will be reviewing.
I paid $2.00 for this bottle. It can be bought in bulk (24 bottles) which will come out to $1.66 online. Lets take a look at some of the terms I have used.
Thermogenic is a stimulant- like Ephedra and caffeine which youll find in some products like Hydroxycut. Non-thermogenic has no stimulants. Since I already take Xenadrine,(though not today) I certainly dont want more Ephedra in my system. There is none in Carbo Rush. For those who dont know what Ephedra is also known as ma huang, a plant, which has stimulant effects, aids in weight loss and increases energy in some people.
What is it for and who should use it:
I havent told you the grams of carbohydrates in Carbo Rush 70 grams! That is almost 90% of my daily needs of carbohydrates. Just to compare- a bottle of Gatorade has 14 grams of carbohydrates and 14 grams of sugar.
We are told that Carbo Rush will give me a fast, but sustained wild energy rush for powerful workouts. We are also told that this formula will only have a negligible impact on blood sugar levels." This is only for a person doing a hard workout for an extended period of time some say up to 2 hours. This is not for the person running on a treadmill for 40 minutes or lifting light weights for 20.
It is for adults only. Although there are no directions that say that, I am suggesting that this not be given to children.
It is suggested that 1/2 of the bottle be consumed before my workout and the rest during the course of it for a consistent energy boost or anytime as a refreshing carbohydrate supplement.
What did it do for me?
Actually it worked. Not only was I able to work out (I really was questioning my ability at 8:00 this morning.) but I was lifting at my heaviest weights.
I am hypoglycemic, which means that my blood sugar levels rise when I consume sugar or simple carbohydrates in large quantities. I had no hypoglycemic feelings at all from this drink.
I didnt feel a rush so dont expect to feel as if you have popped a couple of Ephedra filled capsules, but it did definitely give me the energy I needed for my workout. I have no doubt about that. I do not, in general, feel it is thirst quenching though. The couple of times I have consumed it, in fact I have found myself thirstier than usual so I wouldnt depend on using this as a thirst quencher.
What does it taste like?
The good news is that it isnt delicious enough to drink in one long gulp. I wouldnt want to have anything that tasted that good. It would defeat the purpose. The bad news is that it isnt delicious, but it truly isnt bad.
I liked the taste and found that a mouthful spread out was just fine and I would buy it again. It is tart. It has more of a tart flavor than Gatorade or Sweet Tarts. It isnt sour, though, or bitter and it leaves no aftertaste. I would say it tastes good without being really yummy. Even though it is tart it doesnt leave a burning feeling in my throat. I enjoy drinking it, I just wouldnt be able to gulp 4 ounces at a time down which is good because I want it to last longer than 5 mouthfuls.
My final thoughts:
I am surprised that I like Carbo Rush so much. I liked it after my workout but I could really tell today that it was giving me the boost I needed to get through a difficult (for me) routine and not feel light headed from having a sugar rush. I like the Orange, but I would try the Fruit Punch. Grape isnt my favorite flavor but if you like grape, give grape a try. This is not a product I would use every day but I can see others who lift heavy and long using it regularly.
