| Twix109's Full Review: Weight Watcher's Smart Ones Chicken Carbonara Froz... |
Smart Ones and other frozen meals are great to take to work since I don’t like to prepare my lunch in the morning and I don’t like to spend a lot of money on lunch in the area I work in. I wanted to try Smart Ones Chicken Carbonara because I thought the flavor combinations of linguini pasta, chicken, turkey bacon, basic, and garlic in a parmesan cheese sauce would be delicious. About
Smarts Ones will be found in your frozen food isle at your supermarket. They usually have deals at the store, or coupons in the Sunday mailer or on the internet. Smart Ones come in a red box with an appetizing picture of the frozen meal on the front of the box. I bought four Smart Ones meals for $10 at Shoprite. Chicken Carbonara is apart of the Bistro Selections. Preparation Instructions
There are 2 ways of preparing the Chicken Carbonara Smart Ones. You can use the microwave or convection oven. At work we have a microwave. The meal comes in a black tray with a clear plastic film on top. You peel back the corner of the film, and heat in the microwave for 3.5 minutes. Then, give the tray a quick stir, and reheat for another minute. Sometimes, in order to get the food very, very hot I put it in for an extra 30 seconds longer. Remove the film and enjoy. Let’s start with the taste. If you follow the microwave instructions, the linguini will be cooked perfectly. It won’t be overcooked or undercooked. There is an ample amount (about 10) of chunks of chicken, but I can’t say the same for the peas. There were exactly 12 peas in my package of Chicken Carbonara. I’m sorry, but I like to eat vegetables. The chicken doesn’t really look “white” either. It looks darker then “white meat chicken.” The peas are barely non-existent. The turkey bacon is in very tiny pieces (the size of a finger nail) and really thin and also virtually non-existent. The turkey bacon has a weird taste. It just tastes bland, and kind of like a dry ham. Where are my peas and where the heck is my turkey bacon? If anyone can find them, let me know.
The sauce is interesting, to say the l east. The sauce is on the thin side, and you can definitely tell there is oil in it. It’s kind of a runny, yellow color. It tastes like parmesan cheese and oil mixed together, really nothing exciting. I didn’t taste any basil or garlic – so along with the sparse peas and disgusting turkey bacon, add the nonexistent taste of basil and garlic to the list.
Even though Smart Ones products are easy to prepare, this one is definitely a miss. The only decent thing was the perfectly cooked pasta. The chicken doesn’t look “white,” the peas are sparse, the turkey bacon tastes like dry ham, the sauce is runny, oily, and cheesy, and the taste of basil and garlic are non-existent. In order to make this product better they could change the looks of the chicken, add peas and more vegetables, change the size & taste of the turkey bacon, and make the sauce a little thicker and not as oily. Oh, and add some garlic & basil taste that you claim this product has. Stay away from this product, for I am not a fan.
1 star.
Thanks for the read,
Danielle
