Is it just me or does it seem like colds, viruses and the flu seem to come at the absolute worst times? Of course, no time is a good time for a little one to get sick, but in our household it seems like when it rains, it pours! My 2 1/2 year old daughter woke up Saturday morning at 3 am complaining that she didn't feel good. When I checked her forehead she was on fire. At the time all we had on hand was the chewable Children's Tylenol. When I offered it to her, she refused to take it. So, my husband threw on some clothes and headed to the grocery store a mile away to purchase some medicine. He brought back a bottle of Children's Tylenol Liquid as well as a bottle of Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid. When I gave him a puzzled stare, he simply said, "better safe than sorry." As it turns out, we definitely needed the Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid!
~*~Cost~*~
As I mentioned above, my husband purchased our bottle of Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid at our local grocery store. He forked over nearly $7.00 for a 4 FL OZ bottle. This product would have been cheaper at a discount store such as Wal-Mart, K-Mart or Target.
~*~Product Description~*~
Each Tylenol product is color coded to make finding the appropriate formula easier. The color also signifies which particular flavor the formula is available in. Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid is purple and the flavor is "Great Grape".
We purchased the 4 FL OZ/120 mL bottle of Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid. The bottle itself is white with a childproof twist off lid. Unlike the infants version of Tylenol Cold products, Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid has a cup and not a dropper. The cup is clear and has easy to see measurements on the sides.
Children's Tylenol Cold is designed for children six years old and older. My husband was completely unaware of this when he purchased it, which may have been due to the sleepy haze he was in. This worked out fine for us since we didn't need it until the next afternoon. A quick call to the doctor confirmed that our daughter could take it, but, of course in a much smaller dose than recommended for an older child. Half of a teaspoon was sufficient for her age and weight.
For children six and older (48-95lbs) 2 teaspoons is the recommended dosage. The dosage can be repeated every 4-6 hours as needed.
Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid is designed to relieve the common symptoms associated with a cold such as sore throat, runny nose, fever, headache, sneezing, nasal congestion, and minor aches/pains.
Active Ingredients:
Acetaminophen 160mg, Chlorpheniramine maleate 1mg, Pseudoephedrine HCI 15mg.

Acesulfame Potassium, Butylparaben, Cellulose, Citric Acid, Corn Syrup, D&C Red #33, FD&C Blue #1, FD&C Red #40, Flavors, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Purified Water, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Carboxmethylcellulose, Sorbitol, Xanthan Gum.
~*~Our Experience~*~
When my daughter woke up Saturday morning with a fever I had no idea what was in store for us over the next few days. The fever continued to climb, and brought with it a bout of sneezing, coughing, sore throat, and well, all the major cold symptoms you can think of. My poor daughter was miserable, and so was the rest of the family! I could have called my husband a genius for picking up the bottle of Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid had it not been for the fact that it would have gone straight to his head!
We had to really struggle with Hailey to get her to take the medicine. In the end my husband had to hold her hands and I had to pour it down her throat. While this may sound horrible, it was literally the only way we could get her to take it. We tried bribing her, telling her it was a special candy, and she absolutely refused. In my opinion, it doesn't taste bad at all. It has a rather sweet flavor, and of course it tastes like grapes. Now to my daughter, we might as well had been giving her hot, boiling lava. At least, that's how she acted!
Thankfully Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid began working quickly. Within 20 minutes my daughter's runny nose began drying up a little bit. Within 30 minutes, she was out cold on the sofa. This was a mixed blessing of sorts, because she was finally getting the sleep she so desperately needed, and we were finally getting the quiet we needed. My daughter can usually play right through a cold or a virus, but, this time, she was something else entirely.
I continued to check her temperature while she slept and I was pleased to find that the Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid was working wonderfully at reducing her fever and keeping it down. When she finally awoke nearly two hours later, her sneezing had subsided and she was finally able to drink liquids. Her sore throat had prevented her from drinking as she usually does. We were also able to get her to nibble on some food.
Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid not only worked quickly, but, it kept her symptoms at bay for a lot longer than I initially expected. In fact, she didn't need another dose for five hours. It even managed to keep her fever down, which thoroughly impressed me.
As far as side affects go, the only apparent one was the drowsiness. My daughter experienced no allergic reactions to this medication.
~*~Overall Opinion~*~
I would highly recommend Children's Tylenol Cold Liquid. Of course, if you have a child under six years of age, consult with your pediatrician first. It worked wonderfully for my daughter, and kept her fever down and symptoms at bay for a lot longer than expected!
