| JasonNYCity's Full Review: Two Boots |
Two Boots is a restaurant that combines Italian and Cajun influences. Both Italy and Louisiana are shaped like "boots", hence the name of the restaurant.
They have a good selection of pizza, appetizers, and entrees.
Some of their pizzas include the Bayou Beast (BBQ Shrimp, andouille sausage, and jalapeno), the Gilda (wild mushrooms, roasted garlic, and sweet pepper pesto, and the Newman (Sopressato, sweet Italian sausage, ricotta & mozzerella.
Some appetizers include fried calimari, creole popcorn, fingers of fire (spicy chicken fingers), bbq shrimp, and mussels fra diablo.
Some entrees include Pesto lasagne, catfish, jambalaya, fried chicken creole, and grilled red snapper.
We had a side dish of red beans and rice, which was well seasoned.
They have a board filled with specials every day. I ordered the days special pizza which was roasted garlic, spinach, fresh tomatoes, and wild mushrooms. I had them put andouille as well. The pizza was very good with and excellent crispy crust. While it looked like a lot of garlic, the garlic was mild and delicious because it ahd been roasted. The andouille was flavorful, but not overly spicy. This isn't the kind of pizza you eat with your hands. A medium was too much for the two of us since we had two (large) slices leftover.
Their sangria was good, and had brandy in it, but no fruit. Then again, sangria isn't from Italy or Louisiana. They have Brooklyn beer on tap and in bottles!
They had a variety of pies (key lime, apple crumb) and sorbets (cherry, mango, and blackberry cabernet.) I had the blackberry cabernet sorbet (say that three times fast) which was very good. You can't go wrong with wine in your fruit sorbet!
The place has a fun atmosphere, and has lots of boots on display (two per window) and statues of little Cajun pizza men. There are plenty of large booths to sit in.
The waitress was nice and had an interesting sense of humor. A man came in with a HUGE cardboard box, and asked to be seated. She offered him a table for two, and asked him if that was "his date?" When she asked what was in the box, I was afraid she was going to ask if he had a blow up doll in there. :)
I had originally planned on going for lunch on a weekend, but they open at 2pm, which is a bit late. I went last night instead.
I definitely recommend two boots because the food was both interesting and very tasty. The Italian/Cajun fusion really was a great idea.
The location in Brooklyn was actually sold, so is not run by the same people.

Update 10/21/00
Went to back to Two Boots last night with a group of 6 friends. It turns out that they do take reservations, which worked out well since they had the table setup for us when we got there.
The service was very good even though it was a Friday night and a bit busy.
The special pizza of the day was marinated chicken, plum tomatoes and scallions. The pizza was very good and a bit spicy. They had coconut sorbet, which was very good.
A pitcher of sangria turned out to be $34 and not strong enough.
