As an Australian I see Calvin Klein as a designer who, in his clothes, products and fragrances as well as in his life, has captured a fragment of America. By this I mean that the Calvin Klein ideals of sophistication, simplicity and sexiness represent what much of the world sees in America. Of all the beauty and fashion lines, Calvin Klein is one that I respect and admire for sticking with a formula that works and not being swayed by trends. Every woman wants beauty to be uncomplicated, we want products that affirm our natural beauty instead of compounding our insecurities. Personally, I find that a fragrance can complete my look more perfectly than any product and subtly makes me feel better about myself all day. And a fragrance by Calvin Klein makes me feel like I'm in a TV commercial, all day and into the evening.
I have previously mentioned that I don't usually buy fragrances for myself. However, there was just something about Truth by Calvin Klein that made me come back for a second sniff. There is something very provocative and yet subtle about this fragrance, I still can't put my finger on it. It is not a bold scent, and yet it lingers, leaving a hint of muted intensity that suggests both innocence and earthiness. There is a very 'clean' sense about this perfume, similar to cK one which was one of the first unisex fragrances. Truth captures a unique sensuality by using a combination of a woody base with floral and vanilla notes. Since buying the fragrance, my friends and family have stocked me up on the other products in the range, including the bath and bedtime luxuries.
The Product Truth comes in an interestingly shaped bottle, simple and yet original. The bottle is rectangular but shaped to lean backwards, it is clear with a silver head and the words 'Truth Calvin Klein' printed vertically on the front. There's a very arty feel to the bottle itself, before you even come to the fragrance. The elegance in the design of the bottle is something I appreciate, because I truly believe that packaging can make a difference to my experience with many products. Truth is available in several different sizes - 1 fl oz Eau de Parfum Spray ($26), 1.7 fl oz Eau de Parfum Spray ($44), 3.4 fl oz Eau de Parfum Spray ($58). The popularity of the fragrance also inspired a set of Truth Bedtime Luxuries and Truth Bath Luxuries. Truth is also available as a Body Oil Spray, a Shower Gel and a Body Lotion.
Truth by Calvin Klein is a fragrance with an aromatic blend of notes, designed to evoke a very specific style. Calvin Klein set Truth in an original category by mixing both fresh and sensual notes for a complex and yet definitely feminine result. I find that this fragrance is somewhere in between cK one and Obsession in that it isn't too heavy, and yet it isn't a light fragrance either. I am not usually a 'musk' lover, I tend to prefer fresh fragrances that invigorate me and aren't overpowering, but Truth got to me on some internal level. I think that when you wear it (or if you would wear it at all!) would depend a lot on your personality and your mood. I often wear Truth during the day but prefer it as an evening scent, the mysterious elements of the perfume work better at night!

As I mentioned before, Truth is the type of fragrance that seems to echo the sensual experience of other, heavier perfumes while retaining a very light feel and scent. The Truth range is directed at younger women, but it is not the 'light and sweet' scent usually geared towards teenagers. The wood and musk base of the fragrance gives it a more sophisticated air and is one of the things that makes it an ideal evening perfume. Calvin Klein stressed the fact that Truth is meant to evoke 'the lush freshness of nature and the warm sensuality of skin'. It is a very 'natural' fragrance in that it complements the scent of your own skin. Whenever I wear Truth I really feel like the fragrance is emanating from me and not just sitting on me. I complete a simple evening outfit with a pair of eye-catching earrings, wearing Truth and revelling in my sensuality.
My Experience
So, how do you know if this perfume is for you? There are many factors involved: your personality, your age, your fragrance preferences, your mood, your sense of style. In the end no matter how much I enjoy this fragrance, it doesn't mean that everyone else will. We are drawn to a perfume by something that appeals to us, but we end up falling in love with a perfume for the memories that it captures and evokes each time we wear it. Truth is perfect if you're looking for something warm and sensuous, yet light enough to wear everyday. The fragrance is very long-lasting and evolves during the day to leave you with its best notes by the evening. I would not classify this fragrance as a bold or daring one, but it if mysterious and suggestive is what you're looking for then you'll find it in Truth.
This fragrance makes me feel good about myself and leaves me confident that the impression that I will make on people that I meet during the day will be a languid and lingering one. It is one of my staple fragrances and matches most of my moods. Although in real life I am not as mysterious as I would like to be, Truth allows me to explore the part of myself that enjoys deep down feminine earthiness. Truth would never knock anyone out when you enter the room (unless you are very heavy-handed when applying) and yet it makes a definite impression without going over the top. Truth is a great fragrance to try if you're in the 'growing up' stage of acquiring perfumes - moving away from light scents but not wanting to dive straight into the heavier ones. Truth also tends to smell quite different on different people as it picks up the unique fragrance of every individual's skin.
In a Nutshell? I enjoy this fragrance - it reflects a part of my personality that I am proud of and is my personal way of declaring my sensuality and complexity. Truth by Calvin Klein is a very different perfume in a category of its own. It is unique in its projection of the natural beauty of every woman and is perfectly subtle. Try this fragrance if you're searching for a fragrance that declares your youth and femininity while radiating confidence and mystery.
The Verdict
I love the way Truth makes me feel and act when I'm wearing it. Whether I'm wearing jeans and a tank top at home, a pinstripe suit at work or a little black dress in a classy restaurant this fragrance encapsulates my feelings about my body and my mind. Truth makes it possible to smell natural while still making you distinctive and for this I will always be glad that I discovered it. The flexibility of the fragrance allows it to be matched to many moods as well as many outfits. The complexity of the fragrance allows you to say whatever you want to say just by walking past someone. The truth is that every woman has her own natural beauty and should have the right to own that beauty internally and to know her own intrinsic worth.
