Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Tinker Bell And The Lost Treasure
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
Pixie Hollow is a mythical place where a certain character shares her time with her winged friends. That person is none other than Disney's Tinker Bell and she has starred in a few different movies including her own feature film. Today, Tinker Bell is back in a new movie, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, a Walt Disney DVD release that includes a bonus blu-ray disc.
Movie Facts: Director: Klay Hall Release Date: October 27, 2009 Running Time: 81 Minutes Rating: G
Movie Cast: Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure features the voices of Mae Whitman (Tinker Bell), Anjelica Huston (Queen Clarion), Jesse McCartney (Terence), Kristin Chenoweth (Rosetta), Lucy Liu (Silvermist), Pamela Adlon (Vidia), Jane Horrocks (Fairy Mary), Raven Symone (Iridessa), Grey Delisle (Narrator), and others. Movie Plot: Tinker Bell and her friends in Pixie Hollow are preparing for the Autumn season when Tinker Bell is told she needs to meet with Queen Clarion and the Minister of Autumn. Tinker Bell has been given an important task: To replenish the supply of the magic dust in the Pixie Magic Tree. To accomplish this, Tinker Bell must create a scepter that will capture the light of the blue harvest moon and direct it through a rare moonstone. Tinker Bell's friend Terance offers to help, but he ends up shattering the scepter and moonstone in the process.
Tinker Bell is angry with Terance but she realizes she must do something to make sure that the magic dust is restored, or else the members of Pixie Hollow will no longer have any magical powers. She sets off in a balloon across the sea with a firefly friend named Blaze in search of a new moonstone. Will she find the Lost Treasure, or will the magical abilities of Pixie Hollow be lost forever?
Final Thoughts:
Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure is a good Disney movie that features the characters of Pixie Hollow and an important adventure for the lovable, winged heroine. This movie was just released and it is being offered as a two- disc set, complete with a DVD and Blu-ray, all for a special price.
In the past, I would have had no interest whatsoever in a movie based on the Disney character Tinker Bell and I doubt I would have even been aware that this DVD was about to be released. But something happened in the past few years that forever changed my viewing habits: I became a dad to two little girls- two girls that are very girly and very much in love with certain characters in movies and television. Tinker Bell ranks right up there with other Disney characters such as Cinderella, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White on my girls' popularity list and once they became aware that a new Tinker Bell movie was in the making, it was added immediately to their must- see, must- own movie list.
I have watched the original Tinker Bell movie from last year and found it to be pretty good overall, espcially in the area of production and animation. I suspected that Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure would be the same, and I wasn't disappointed. In fact, among the qualities of this movie, the one you will remember best is the computerized animation. It combines some traditional animation with clay- like animation, for a three- dimensional effect. Animals, flowers, insects, and other creatures abound in this movie and they take on an entirely new dimension thanks to the excellent visuals. Some images, such as sand and water, look just like the real thing and the animation is excellent when viewed on a plasma, high definition television.
As for the storyline, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure is good and offers a plot typical of many other children's movies. The plot isn't complicated, but it is sophisticated enough to pass and even some adults will find it intriguing. It could have benefitted from some added suspense and a little more action in place of the slower scenes. But children are the primary audience for this movie and most youngsters will find the pace perfectly fine. Also, parents and children alike will appreciate some of the movie's core messages about responsibility and the treasure of friendship. Parents and children will also like the sweet, innocent nature of the movie and its characters.
Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure is more than just a movie. It also offers a whole bunch of extras with this DVD/Blu-ray combination: Tinker Bell Comes to Disney World (includes scenes from Disney World Orlando's Pixie Hollow area), Deleted Scenes, Alternate Scenes, a Bonus Short, and the music video for the song "A Gift of a Friend". The fact that a Blu-ray disc is included with the DVD for a relatively low price is yet another bonus.
Overall, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure is a very good movie for children. Its "G" rating makes it a safe bet for kids of any age and its message about freindship is a strong and memorable one. The plot is ordinary, but the great visual effects from the animation make this a movie worth owning and it's the type of movie that young Tinker Bell fans will want to watch over and over again.
