hippopotamus82's Full Review: Tim Winton - The Riders
There is no way to tell upon first glancing at the opening pages where this book is taking you and it remains that way throughout. This author has offered up a deep and insightful portrayal of the modern every day man's loss of love, and life. Where does one turn when you are a million miles from home and have found yourself searching desperately to what can never be found again.
The strongest point in this novel is the exploration of relationships between husband, wife, father daughter and more particularly the definition between love and longing. A man that is willing to do anything for his wife, finds that there are some things that are more important than marriage. One of these being love. This issue is approached head on as the main character, finds that the harder he looks outwardly the more he begins to realize that love is not something you can search for it is something that you always have with you.
Stunning sensory imagery and a range of characters that appeal to everybody make this novel not only very readable but also a journey of your own.
