I loved the stories of Pippi Longstocking as a child and am sure your child will too. This book is either for an able reader or for you to break down in chapters to read out loud.
What child is there that doesn't envy the freedom of Pippi, living by herself with a horse and a monkey, having to answer only to herself. Yet it is also obvious at times that Pippi does miss her parents, which otherwise would make it a bit unrealistic.
The outrageous stories she tells to, among others, her two neighbor friends seem to be nothing but fantasies but lo and behold more often than not turn out to be real accounts of her past adventures. As self assured as Pippi is, it is refreshing to read that not only is she just a little girl but also acts as such, for example when she goes out on a candy buying spree.
Not wanting to give the storyline away, let me just say that if you (and/or your child) haven't read this book (either in awhile or ever), go to your nearest library and graba copy of this great storytelling! (By the way, the book is a lot better than the movie!)
