Pros: Light-weight, unbelievable sound and playability, cute appearance.
Cons: Can't think of any.
The Bottom Line: If you want looks and prestige, go with Martin or the bigger Taylors. If you want beautiful sound, great playability and simple elegance, this is it!
suejoel's Full Review: Taylor Big Baby Acoustic Guitar
I bought a Taylor Big Baby a few weeks ago at Guitar Center, mainly to replace my other guitar that had been stolen while I was out on the road (occupational hazard). I couldn't believe the sound or the action. I bought it, not expecting that it would work as a stage guitar, but I really liked playing it. My intention was to just use it to get by until the insurance check for the stolen one came in, then play it for fun and practice (after all, it was only a $300.00 guitar, even if it is a Taylor). Well, Taylor got the last laugh! Since it didn't have a pick-up system (which I initially considered a drawback, erroneously, it turned out), I played it on a solo lounge gig through a Sure SM-58 mic, a few days later. It was outstanding! It sounded as sweet as any guitar I've ever played. The bass came through great, without having to do much EQ! I haven't put a pick-up on it because I'm afraid it might change the sound, and that would be a crime! I play it through a mic, exclusively. I have since used it in the studio on several cuts, including my latest at www.garageband.com/artist/joelclyde (feel free to check out the sound). It has a sound all it's own. Clear, distinctive, crisp and full of character. It's what I've been looking for for years. It is my main weapon now (I used the insurance check to upgrade and expand some of my studio software). The smaller size is very handy as well (especially when you have to play cruise ships, where living space is tight anyway). It is a true and faithful road companion, now. I seldom leave home without it.
If your one of those lucky ones who can shell out $1200.00-$3000.00 for a full-size Taylor of Martin, then the Big Baby might seem a little tame. But if your like a lot of us working musicians on a strict budget, no other guitar in this price range that I've ever seen or heard comes close.
