| imaginetr's Full Review: Swing N Slide NE4464 1 1/2" Swing Hangers (Pair) |
These swing hangers came in our "swing-n-slide" Scout kit. This kit uses these hangers for it's two swings and trapeze/rings bar.
We bought our kit in late 2003 for our three year old girl. We just bought a new, bigger set and I just took down the old one.
In five years we never had a problem with these hangers. Though very basic, they do hold up under regular use. They consist of two main parts: the stationary eye-bolt and the moving "J-hook".
The steel, threaded eye bolt is triangular at one end where the J-hook fits onto it. The bottom of the triangular eye provides a level area for the "J" to swivel on. The threaded bolt part goes through the beam but does not extend beyond the surface of the beam. It is counter-sunk just below the beam surface and secured with a washer and nylon lock nut. The counter-sink hole then is covered by a small galvanized plate which is secured to the beam with four screws.
The J-hook has a hard nylon grommet that fits onto the eye-bolt enabling the J-hook to move easily and quietly back and forth as the swing moves.
The only two short comings I might mention are first, as the child grows and can swing higher, the eye bolt tends to pivot slightly so instead of the triangular eye facing forward, it twists slightly I guess to accommodate the larger plain. It does not seem to affect swinging but looks out of sorts.
second, is that as our child grew, I wanted to raise the swing up a few links. To do this, it's necessary open the close "J-hook" end in order to slip the links onto the hook. It's extremely, extremely hard to open these hooks. Oh, it can be done I'm just saying it's hard.
These hooks do not appear to be galvanized but I found no signs of rust or corrosion.
