What I was looking for...
I was looking for body lotion that has either no fragrance or with a fragrance that I can stand (I'm generally not a big fan of perfumes, especially overdone ones that'll choke people around you. Just so that you know my taste, I generally go for light, fruity, clean smell in lotion and make-ups). So I came upon this sale in Duane Reade (drugstore/pharmacy in New York City). This 10 oz. bottle of lotion was on sale for 99 cents each. I picked this one because its smell is relatively light. The fruity ones they had in this series was too artificial-smelling, so I passed those and got this.
What I got...
I usually use this lotion on my body after shower. My skin absorbs it really well and the lotion is very spreadable. I could barely smell it after I applied it. Once or twice I would use it on my face, and I couldn't smell it after a couple of minutes. Also because it is inexpensive (I got my second bottle for a bit over a dollar), I don't feel guilty applying it liberally.
On the back of the bottle...
"... gives you the healing and protection of more expensive brands for less. Enriched with the natural moisturizing powers of cocoa butter to smooth and soften dry, ashy skin. Ideal after sun exposure to moisturize sun damaged skin and help prevent flaking and peeling."
"Rich Emollients penetrate deeply to restore skin's vital natural moisture."
"Never Greasy Formula absorbs quickly into the skin."
True or False?
I think this bottle definitely worths the bucks. I love the never greasy formula because that means I won't leave grease marks everywhere my hand touch. The moisturizing power is definitely good. However, I don't think its power is that long-lasting. I would sometimes reapply once or twice during the day when it's especially dry outside. Other greasier brands that I've used moisturizes much longer.
So is this lotion for you?
First it's up to you to decide whether you like the cocoa butter smell or not. Definitely go to the store and "smell it out" before considering it. To me, smell is even more important than whatever effects it claims to have.
Second, decide what you need. This is a great, inexpensive body lotion. It is easily absorbed by the skin, non-greasy, but its moisturizing effect does not last as long as other greasier brands. If you have time to apply it during the day or if you hate greasy products, by all means, this lotion is perfect for you. If long lasting moisturizing effect is very important to you, then you should look into other products.
I can't decide...
It's worth trying. It's cheap so you're not losing much if you decide you don't like it. You might end up liking it too! So either way, you won't lose.
Oh, by the way, I just bought a new bottle... it now comes with Shea butter!
