Pros: Interesting Concept
Cons: Biased and Discriminatory
The Bottom Line: I hate this game. Spare yourself the agony and play something fun like Risk.

I hate this game. Not because it is a bad game, or that I don't understand the object behind it. I am just horrible at it. I get mad because someone takes my word, I misspelled it or the word is a pronoun.
It is a well made game. The rules make sense, and have cool details. The triple word score, and making three words connect. All interesting ideas, and can lead to strategies that make for a good game. But my strategies fail horribly. I might make them too complicated. I don't know, but they die a bad death.
This game is really bad if you have any difficulty spelling. It isn't fair and is completely biased against us unfortunate souls who can't spell. Any of you who have read my reviews, before I have bothered to edit them, know I am not the most skilled speller. It is more of a spelling-bee then a game of strategy. It comes down who can spell better then anyone else. That isn't a fun game. Too make matters worse the turns are timed. That negates the usefulness of the dictionary! If you can't spell it's hard to find the words in the dictionary! Another reason why the game favors good spellers.
Ok it does help if you have a large vocabulary. But again this doesn't matter if you can't spell the words you know. This game comes down to spelling. If you can spell the words you can link them up with other ones that you know how to spell. You can find them quickly in the dictionary. If you are a good speller with a large vocabulary then you'll love this game. This game is elitest and completely discriminates against the uneducated. It breads resentment and ill-will amongst the players.
I have never played a game that I dislike more then scrabble. Maybe there is one out there, but I haven't found it. I was tired of seeing everyone say how much they love scrabble, when in fact it is a most unfair game. In my mind a game should have a level playing field. Scrabble does not. There is no random chance to help level it out. You can't practice it and get better. You are either good or bad. Studies have shown by the time you are an adult your level of spelling can't really change. Thus your skill at Scrabble can't change. You can improve your ability at Chess many ways(read books, play, etc....). If you want to make yourself feel smart and your friends stupid then play this game. Otherwise play a real game like Risk.
