artiste's Full Review: Plantronics DSP-300 Headset
Plantronics DSP 300 headset delivers voice recognition with digital audio translation. The software needs more refining for the product to be better at voice recognition. However, DSP 300 is still a very comfortable and light headset. It is very easy to set it up and to adjust the mouthpiece. Besides voice recognition, there are other handy and useful programs.
There are several programs that come with the headset. They are: Net2Phone, Hear-Say Lite voice e mail software, and Lernout and Hauspie's Voice Xpress 5 speech recognition program. There is a button to adjust the volume which is fitted on the headset at chest level. It has a USB connector and users need to purchase a sound card to use the headset. Near the end of the headset wire is a digital signal processing component. It is not too big or weighty. However, if you move your head allot it can easily get tangled up with the wires of other computer component wires. You have to be careful because after all the tangling, one move of the head can yank out the headset.
i I found it very easy to install the headset. I installed the software and plugged in the cable. Overall, I was impressed with the quality of the audio output of DSP 300. Sounds come out very clear. Input has some flaws, though. It does not produce very clear sounds. However, I could recognize my words when I did a playback. There was little background noise or buzzing in the playback sound. This is probably a result from the noise canceling microphone. This feature makes the headset useful for working in a noisy place.
This headset has the technology which works with Microsoft Office XP. However, I found it alittle hard to use them together. One reason is that training is needed to work Microsoft speech software.
Overall, this headset performs well. The voice recognition feature needs more refining for it to be more useful. I especially like the noise canceling microphone feature.
