| Naomi7835's Full Review: Rowenta Compact DA35 Iron |
I can actually say now that I really enjoy ironing. I don't do a lot of ironing any more but I do like to touch up certain clothing. Every now and then I have left my clothes in the dryer too long and they do get a few wrinkles in them. Especially my t-shirts that I like to wear with my jeans, certain blouses and of course a few of my husbands shirts also.
I purchased a new Black & Decker iron a while back, but found it a little too heavy to use. I have arthritis in my hand and wrist, and found the iron was giving me some discomfort whenever I used it. A friend of mine suggested that I try her travel iron which was very light and easy to use. I did try it and loved it. It was a Rowenta Compact iron. She wasn't sure where she had bought it, so off to a few store's I went to find one. I checked Walmart and Target with no luck. My final stop was Bed Bath & Beyond. I finally found the same Rowenta Compact Iron DA35 there. It was priced at $29.99, but I did have a coupon for 20% off which I ended up paying only $23.99
FEATURES:
Water Tank----2.5 ounce water tank that's located in the handle.
Folding Handle---- Handle can be folded down for easy storage.
Handle Release Button---- This button is located at the rear of the iron. Pressing this button in allows you to fold the handle down flat. When you need to iron all I had to do was pull the handle up and it locks in place.
Dual Voltage Selector---- Has two Heating elements, 120 V or 240 V.
1000 Wattage
Durable Black Nylon Travel Pouch---- For storing the iron at home or great for traveling.
Cord----This cord is nice and long
Stainless Steel Soleplate.-----Heats up quickly and glides easily over garments.
Steam Settings---- Burst of steam, Vertical Steam, and Constant Steam.
Temperature Settings---- For using on Synthetics, silk/wool, cotton/linen.
Steam Control----Gives you the option of ironing with or without steam.
Water Cup----Small clear plastic filling cup for filling the iron with water.
Size Of The Iron---- 8" x 4" x 4 1/2"
Now this Rowenta Compact DA35 iron is very lightweight and weighs only about 1 and 1/2 pounds, which is nice for me to be able to handle without getting any pains in my wrist. It's all white with a little greenish blue on top of the handle and is really cute looking.
FILLING WITH WATER:
I made sure that the iron wasn't plugged in yet. Then I moved the steam control button forward into the "No Steam" position. On top of the handle is where the water tank is located, and on top of the water tank is a tank cap, that is pulled up so it can be filled with water. I filled the water cup up first, which came with the iron and then pulled the water tank cap up and poured the water into the water tank on the handle and closed the cap. I allowed the iron to heat up, and then I switched the steam control to the "Steam" setting. It was easy to fill the water tank because the water cup has a small pouring spout on one side, which made it very easy to pour the water in the water tank without even spilling a drop of water.
Burst of Steam----Using a Burst of Steam is nice for stubborn wrinkles. The Burst of Steam button is also located on top of the handle. By pressing down the button firmly, a strong burst of steam will penetrate deep into the fabric.
Vertical Steam----Recently I had washed my slipcovers for my living room chair and my sofa, and had placed them back on. On the side of my chair near the bottom of the slipcover there were several wrinkles in it. I took the iron and held it vertically and pressed the the burst of steam button, while I held the iron in the vertical position. Went over the entire bottom of the slipcover back and forth several times, and all of the wrinkles did come out. I haven't tried the Vertical Steam on any hanging clothes or drapes yet, but I think it would also do a great job on getting creases out of these too.
Dry Ironing----With certain clothes that I have I like to use the dry iron feature. I do make sure that the water tank has been emptied before I do any dry ironing, and I make sure that the Steam Control is in the "No Steam" position. I like to use a aerosol spray starch when I'm dry ironing because it gives my clothes a crisp and clean look.
If your a person who does craft projects, quilting, or sewing, this Rowenta Compact Steam Iron would be great to use for these purposes.
WATER USAGE IN THE IRON:
You can use regular tap water in this Rowenta Compact iron, as long as you don't have real hard water. If your water is hard you can mix half tap water and and half distilled water. And never use 100% distilled water in this Rowenta iron, because it will cause the iron to spit and leak. You can also use inexpensive bottled spring water.
If your water does contain large amounts of iron, this can collect inside the iron and will appear as brown stains. I use bottled water myself, and have no problems at all.
AFTER IRONING WITH STEAM:
Unplug the iron and slide the steam control to the "No Steam" position and always empty any water that's left in the water tank.
CLEANING:
Once the iron has been unplugged and has cooled, I will take a really damp sponge and wipe down the whole iron and the soleplate, and then wipe it dry. My spray starch will sometimes leave a little film on the soleplate if I don't wipe it down after each time I iron.
Do not use abrasive cleaners or cleaning pads on the soleplate to clean it.
To prevent scratching of the soleplate, do not iron over anything sharp like zippers etc. Also do not place the iron on rough surfaces for support.
If your a person who likes to travel, this Rowenta Compact Iron is small and won't take up much room in a suitcase and would be nice to take along. The nylon travel pouch is pretty durable, and has a zipper on it which makes it a good way to store it while traveling.
CAUTIONS:
Even though this iron is small and compact the soleplate on this Rowenta Compact Iron does take sometime to cool down. To avoid burns this Rowenta Compact Iron shouldn't be placed anywhere around where small children can touch it.
This iron is a 1000 watt iron, and shouldn't be plugged in with another high wattage appliance on the same circuit, which could cause a circuit overload.
STORAGE:
Once the iron has cooled, The handle then can be folded down flat, by simply pressing in the button in the rear of the iron. Then you can wrap the cord loosely around the handle of the iron. It can be placed in the nylon pouch, zipped up and stored away. Being the iron is so small it, it doesn't take up much room when storing it and can be placed very easily in any small place or a kitchen cabinet. I keep mine in my linen closet on the shelf.
WARRANTY:
This Rowenta Compact DA35 Iron comes with a 1 year warranty from date of purchase against any defects in material or workmanship.
MY FINAL NOTE:
I love this Rowenta Compact DA35 Iron. I only wished that I would have thought about buying it sometime ago. Even though I really don't have a lot of ironing to do, the small and lightweight size of this Rowenta iron doesn't give me any discomfort in my hands and wrists anymore while I'm using it. I like the way it handles and the way the handle folds down flat for storage. Then it can be easily placed into the nylon travel pouch, zippered up and put away for easy storage.
Even though this Rowenta Compact DA35 Iron is small, it will get the job done as easily as a full size iron. The stainless steel soleplate allows an easy glide over any fabric, and the Vertical Steam feature makes it easy to remove wrinkles from drapes etc. It not only works great but it also looks pretty darn cute. I recommend it fully.
Thanks for reading and "Happy Ironing"
