Pros: Nice rich color, easy application, perfect blend of gloss and matte
Cons: Didn't fill my whole lip outline, color a bit too dark
The Bottom Line: Though it has a few cons, this is a great product and I believe it has been struck down in other opinions of it.

I've honestly had it with those "slide-off" lip colors. Well, they aren't called "slide-off" in marketing, of course, but that's what you grow to call them once you start using them. Not only do they slide off your lips, but often they don't even reach your lips because they slide off the applicator wand first. They're like water -- colored water. And I am seriously sick of them. They usually cost far more than our typical balms, glosses, stains, sticks, and pots. And they are usually far worse.
This ColorStay Liquid Lip seemed different for some reason. Maybe it's the packaging, or how it looks in that skinny, streamlined tube. The tube is cold glass with a solid gold cap, and it has little matching gold stripes against a pink background (and the pink background is the color of the product). It looks kind of like a little miniature army general in a pink suit, with his little stripes and his little hat. Very stiff, erect, thin, and not too comfortable. Normally I go all out for the comfort element -- it has to feel warm and cozy in my hands (no, I'm not crazy). But there was something about this particular color that made me think I was going to die if I didn't buy it.
The color was Zinfandel. It didn't come up on my computer spellcheck, so I assume that it's a word. Feel free to look it up--I'm too lazy to do it. In the tube, Zinfandel is the color of my tongue. (If you've read my other opinions, you know that I choose my lip color based on the color of my tongue. It works!) Anyway, it's a sort of sophisticated, matte-looking mauve infused with nuances of plum. A nice color. Not too bright at all -- and not too sexy. Quite professional looking.
When you put it on, though, it's different. I stirred up the product, as the bottle instructs...and then I took out the wand and touched it to my lips. I drew a line of product on each of my lips, then smacked them together and gazed at the results.
It is dark, and let me tell you --- DARK. I didn't expect a liquid lip color to be this dark, but I promise you it is. It is much darker than most solid lipsticks. My lips looked very plump a la Sophia Loren (thanks to the built-in gloss), but they also looked rather seductive. Maybe even a bit too seductive.
Now don't get me wrong. I like being sexy once in awhile, just for fun. But I bought this lip color to wear for my "Day Look" -- aka work, home, playing with kids, etc. Not playing in other ways. Therefore I don't want a lip color that will make me look like the woman in the skintight catsuit. This one did. The color was very, very dark and rich, and just one layer coated my lips with a very cabernet/wine color type.
There was one very nice thing about the color: it strikes the perfect balance between glossy and matte. Normally I go with the more matte lip colors, because I think too much gloss reduces a woman's credibility. But this one seemed perfect. It is smooth and even and opaque, just like matte lipstick. However, it bears a tiny, almost unnoticeable, touch of gloss. It's great because you can see the hint of gloss when you tilt your head into the light a certain way. That makes your lips look plump, full, and beautiful without looking like Christina Aguilera (the queen of lip gloss overload). So this lip color doesn't qualify as lip stick or lip gloss. It's neither and both.
I like this product because the application is very controlled. It doesn't go where you don't put it. Therefore you have to be very, very precise when applying it, or else you might not coat your entire lip. The first time I tried, I missed a couple spots. The second time, I used a magnifying mirror and I was able to see where I had not applied the product. Altogether I think that it might be a bit too controlled, and you have to have a lot of time and energy to get it just right.
Overall, this is a good product. It has its flaws, but I think most of the faults were because of the color I bought. All I can say is, appearances can be deceiving. Study the colors carefully before you pick one out. This product gives a superb "day look" as long as you are careful in your application, and you choose the perfect color.
