| jenni796's Full Review: Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel |
I frequently travel to New York City with my son as part of an autism research study at Mt. Sinai. We usually stay at the Crowne Plaza but occasionally try other hotels around the city.
My son loves staying in the middle of Times Square and the Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel certainly fits the bill with an address of Two Times Square New York, NY. Located in the heart of the city and just one block from Rockefeller Center.
The Marriott (Parent company) website is easy to navigate and reservations were quickly made. Rooms vary in price depending on the time of year and the day of the week. Average fall weekend rates for a standard room are 449.00 and 20. extra for a corner room or 150. extra for a suite. During off-times, I've seen rates as low as 199. per night. These prices are comparable to other hotels in the Times Square area.
Check-in had a short wait as the line was long but moved along pretty quickly. The room was Beautiful with simple artwork and elegant furnishings. Everything was very clean in the room as well as throughout the rest of the hotel. The room includes a coffee Maker, in-room safe, high-Speed, and Italian-style marble bathrooms. Not an extensive list of amenities but you don't spend much time in your room when staying in NYC. All the staff that we encountered were nice and polite.
The food was absolutely the BEST room service I have ever had and I've stayed in many hotels all over the country. Of course it wasn't the cheapest where steak dinners begin around 35.00 but it was worth the extra money for such great food. Foley's Fish House is the resturaunt located inside the hotel and it serves a wide variety of New England Seafood as well as pasta and meat dishes plus an extensive kids menu. There is also an Art Deco bar for cocktails and live piano music.
The Renaissance New York Times Square is perfectly located at the center of entertainment. There are so many great things to see, broadway shows, and places to shop and eat within walking distance. Valet parking is expensive at $44. per day, but again, this is NYC and you don't have a many options (the hotel across the street charges 50. per day.)
As a frequent traveler, I personally prefer the Crowne Plaza overall because of their Points program and they have more things for kids but I would highly recommend the Renaissance to friends and family looking for a good nights sleep in the city.
PS; The Renaissance will be renovating from 02/19/07 through 09/01/07. The renovation will include guest rooms, corridor, lobby, restaurant, bar, and meeting space improvements. *** I'm not so sure they needed the renovations as everything was beautiful when I was there just a couple months ago.
