| mn9130's Full Review: Radio Shack Pro-2055 Base Scanner |
This model is a good one for beginners, and also has many of the features that more advanced users want. Many departments have gone to trunking systems, which renders older scanners pretty well useless.
The Pro-2055 has more slots to store frequencies than most people will ever use. In addition, it comes already programmed with many of the more commonly used frequencies for law enforcement, fire/rescue, aircraft, and other fields. Sets of frequencies can easily be divided by banks, making keeping different departments separate easy. In addition, switching between banks or selecting multiple banks requires only pressing 2 buttons. The weather band radio automatically tunes in to the nearest NWS broadcast, so getting weather info is a one press function.
Included are a mount for either tabletop use or car installation, and power cords for either setup. Installation in a car is simple and well explained, just a couple of screws and wires connected.
I also have to say that I've gotten better range with this model than with some others I've owned. I'm very pleased, with the quality and ease of use, and I know that if I get more involved in its use, I have a whole range of useful features.
In short, I'd buy it again.
